We are having an open house on Saturday. There is going to be a lot of people walking around my house. Is there anything I can do to make this less stressful on them or am I just overreacting?

is it possible you could move them to a friend's or families house for the day?

on second thought, i dont know about the personality of your pigs, but mine would love to have all the people. whenever there is a lot of people and activity goping on, they come running out of their houses and start popcorning. whenever we have guests over, they get sooo happy! i know my girls wouldnt mind all the action, but i dont know about yours.

No, I already asked.

Maybe I am just overreacting. I'll make sure to give them their veggies right before everyone comes so the will feel beter.

My girls are shy and will probably hide. Sam and Salem will probably be up at the front of their cage to see if they have veggies for them. Thanks l2t

Try putting a bedsheet over the cage during the open house. I did this when I first got my pig and it made him more comfortable with the strange noises, movement etc.

If you think they might be stressed by all the extra people and there isn't a quieter place you can move them to, just make sure they have places to hide and lots of hay - should keep them busy!

Are you having an open house to try to sell it?
Because it might be wise to take the guinea pigs out, not just for their sake. Because when we were trying to sell our house, we just left our hamsters inside, in their cages of course. And some lady that was looking kept making nasty comments about our 'rats'. In the end we never ended up selling our house anyways. Most people when looking to buy a home, do not want to see your pets in the house. Apparently (this was our realstate agent talking) people seem to think the house is 'dirty' if there are pets in it. I don't agree with what our realstate agent said. If you don't like the fact that pets have lived in the house before then buy a new one.

Well anyways I hope your piggs stay calm and happy. And I hope everything goes great.

Thanks for all the replies. We have so many animals that it probably wouldent change their minds if my pigs werent here.

Im cleaning my pig cage right before everyone comes so they look nice and dont smell at all. They will get extra hay and veggies so they will be kept happy. Their cage is almost covered with a towel now to help keep them warm at night, so I'll just leave that on.

Are you going to be there on the open house day? I would be worried if people were picking them up or something... (curious little kids or something)

I wont be here. I have to take my dogs to the park, but my mom will and there is a cover over their cahe because of our cats.

There should not be a problem at all with having pets in the house just as long as its clean and doesnt smell. Just remind your mom while you and your dogs are at the park not to let anyone try to see or pick them up.

Thanks I'll do that.

Our house doesent smell at all. My mom cleans everything a lot, so that isint a problem.

I like the covering with a sheet idea, and it's good you have a lid, but if you are at all concerned they might be touched by strangers during the open house, cable tie the lid down temporarily so it can't be opened. Then they will be safe from prying little hands!

Cable tying it is a very good idea. I think I'll do that. I'll let you guys know how it goes tomarrow.
