Hello there,
It's been a while since I posted in this forum. Unfortunately the reason I am posting this time is that I might have a problem with one of my piggies and need some guidance.
First I apologize for I was not able to search. 'Old' and 'Age' are words too short for the search engine.
My piggy, Pepper, is around 5 1/2 yr old. Over time (long time) I've seen her lose weight very slowly, going from 1.2kg to 800gr. She is eating fine and drinks lots of water. She eats her hay, loves her red leaf, devours carrots and tomatoes, kinda likes the parsley (only curly, hates the regular)... she seems fine other than:
- Lost weight over long time
- Her poop is slightly smaller than the other piggie (5yr old)
- She sleeps more
- Her voice (wheek) is gone
- She seems to drink twice as much as the other pig
I am going to take her to a vet, but I recently moved and my first reaction to new vets is not to trust them. But I have to take her, so I need some guidance. Mainly I want to know what is it that I should expect the vet to do to diagnose the problem. Since this has taken so long to develop and the piggy is close to 6yr old, I am guessing that age is starting to show up on her. But to be on the safe side, I want her checked. Blood work? X-Rays? Just-in-case meds? I have not noticed breathing problems with a stethoscope, so I am expecting that the vet won't find breathing problems. But I don't want to have a vet do things that would make no sense, could potentially harm the pig or just get money from me for nothing (I had a few of these that caused all three).
Sorry for this long post. I have had bad experience with my cats and vets, it is generally worse when it comes to the piggies. I wish I had my old vet which I trusted and was awesome with the piggies.
Thanks for your feedback!
Mariano
