Ok you guys convinced me to become a vegiterian!! I do not want to eat a poor animal, all it does is make you think of how it got slaughtered!! Although Im not gonna be a fULL vegiterian, Im gonna eat meat once a week, dont you guys starve just eating vegtables fruit and whatever else you eat, practically everything has meat, hamburgers sandwhiches (most sandwhiches) chilli, hot dogs, and lots more! What do vegiterians exactly eat?

I don't have any problems finding anything to eat. I eat mostly Vegetables and Pasta. Most places have a vegetarian option on their menu.

Yay! I'm so happy that you're becoming a veggie! No, of course we don't starve. I'll tell you what I eat on a random day:

Breakfast - Banana
Lunch - A baguette which has cheese, cucumber, lettuce and tomato
Dinner - Basmatic rice with quorn (which has been simmered in chicken tikka sauce)

Vegetarians eat quorn, tofu, soya, rice, potatoes, vegetables, pasta, pizza. See, the list just goes on!

WOW!

Piglets-Angel - I had no idea my suggestion would take root like that! Good for you!

Do yourself a favor and start slow....unless you are really commited. I went Veg "cold turkey" 20 years ago. It was easy for me because it was all my idea and I was commited.

I promise people will understand if you "slip" so if you need support let us know. No one will get mad if you are doing your best and you admit you had "a moment of weakness" and had a hamburger.

There are lots of great meat-alternative products out there. A few are:
-Garden Burgers or Boca Burgers
-Morning Star Farm products (I'm addicted to their veggie corn dogs)
-Health Food stores carry some GREAT stuff.

With this stuff you don't miss the meat at all. The best part is you never get those rubbery "mystery chunks" that come with meat products.

I'm thinking a thread should be started in the Vegetarian section with recipies. I have a lot of great and easy veg recipies I can share. I'm sure others do too.

Piglets-Angel, there are so many things that are made to taste like meat, but are made of soy, and they are SO good! Veggie lasanga, chicken nuggets, ribs, hamburgers, hot dogs... the list goes on and on! They will sell them in the health food section of your local chain supermarket, (Stop & Shop, Big Y)

Ooo, yay Piglets Angel!! I went veggie on... Dec 16, 2004, and if you were a carnivore like me, it's tough (I went "cold turkey" when I used to have about 2 meals of meat a day, every day, every week... :( )! But I'm happy you're converting!
And like voodoo said, no one will get mad if you have a moment of weakness, I've had a few of those... -__- maybe....3? But I'm trying harder!!!! ^__^

Anyways, that's great you're turning veggie!! Good Luck!

Glad to hear the good news!

First off, this should be moved to the vegetarian part. :)

Anyhow, look at the following sites for information:

WahOO! My best friend is a vegiterian now tOo!!

Good! It's helpful to have support.

I have a question, what about carbs? Pasta, breads, pizza they all have high amounts of carbs, how do you keep from putting on the weight when you become a vegitarian? Has anyone had to deal with that? I just know that Low-Carb is really the way to go health and weight wise (for some people).

I've really always had my doubts about that low-carb craze. I've actually never seen anybody lose weight on them. The healthiest person I know eats carbs like mad and he's skinny as a bean pole.

It's actually going to become illegal in Canada to label something low carb. Health Canada has seen a spike in obisety and health problems since this Atkins craze and has upped it's education on proper diet. More vegetables, fruits and whole grains, less protien and fat.

The problem with carbs is that we eat too many bad carbs. We need to eat good wholesome carbs like whole wheat and grain products. Get whole grain pizza crust, ditch the white bread and eat whole grain pasta and rice. They all exist, you just have to look a little harder for them. Also cut out all of that refined sugar.

To me any diet that gives North Americans what they want (meat) and tells them to cut out what they don't want (bland whole grians) isn't a diet, it's a marketing device. It's a really good way to get you to buy all of that Atkins food.

It's like that big "no cholesterol" craze. We learned there there is good cholesterol and bad cholesterol. That's why I never jump on the diet bandwagon. I wait till the dust has settled and see what scientific facts we can learn from the whole experience.

the atkin's diet is the worst possible diet for your health. i believe in the near future, there will be an increase of heart attacks because of the low carb craze.
carbs are not bad for you. eating nothing but bacon, cheese and beef is what's bad for you.

piglets angel-i am so glad that you decided to join the vegetarian movement. i have been veg for 10 years now and have not craved meat at all (ok-there was this one time but i just thought about the slaughtering process and how the hamburger was once a living, breathing animal and i had no desire for it anymore)
there are veg options at about 99% of restaurants.
good luck!
the animals surely thank you :)

I have to just comment on this....I'm sorry but I wouldnt classify you as being a vegetarian if you still plan on eating meat? (vegetarians do not eat any meat products whatso ever). As you said, wouldnt it still make you think about how the poor animals are slaughtered when you eat your weekly meat meal?

But back to things, there are plenty of people around the world who do not eat meat products of any kind, and just learn to suppliment any of the iron etc which is usually received from meat by eating other things (great info and ideas on those sites mncavylover posted).

Good luck with it all.

It's definitely a step in the right direction, though!
