im happy because i just made my gp a C&C cage, only 2x2 though. I am not happy because when i was showering it, i saw red scratched marks. I got freak out and thought it has mice, lice, or something. I took him to the pet store where i bought it, and since i only have him for 7 days, i still have the 15 days warranty. The girl checked it out and said it's nothing, these marks are probably coming from the gp that he was in with when he was still at the pet store. She also said that it's healing... and dang guess what? she said it would take 40 bucks just to get a check up with a vettttttttttttt..... oh man im so dead if i ever going to see oneeeeee. ahhhhhhhhhhhhh

you really should have thought about vet bills before you got your pig. they may be small, but cavies require veterinarian care just like any other creature anywhere. especially coming from a petstore, you should have just assumed that you'd need to have him checked out prior to getting him, and a 15 day grace period means nothing, you can return a shirt or shoes to the store, but you're dealing with life, no matter how big or small, it's life. i hope your cavy turns out healthy! good luck!

Let me just preface this by saying that I am perpetually broke, so vet bills were a concern for me as well. I had researched GPs before getting ours, but I didn't read about *how* to acquire them. I bought them from a REALLY BAD pet store. A day or 2 after I got them, I started reading all of the horrible things about pet stores, and all of the really bad warning signs that you should run out of the store applied to the place where we bought them.

I called 3 vets. Their prices were $26 to $32 PER GP. Yikes! And since I really wanted a vet who saw a lot of guinea pigs and whose office didn't act surprised that I would bother bringing them in for just a 'well visit', I ended up with the $32 per pig doctor who also happened to be 45 minutes away.

I am really glad that I did. They checked out to be healthy, but *I* felt better. She was really very great. Also, instead of the $64 we'd ben told we'd have to pay, she only charged us $40. That was extremely cool of her.

My recommendation is to call around and find a vet who specializes in small animals. (I got this ones name from the local shelter, although they are nottechnically allowed to refer.) If you find someone who appreciates GPs as pets (like equal to cats and dogs) you may find someone who will see them at a discount or even accept a payment plan if you explain your situation. I also feel very good knowing that if something is ever wrong with my girls that I know exactly who to call.

Take your GP, even if it means cutting our part of your grocery budget. You'll feel better in the end, even if everything is fine. *Especially* if everything is fine!
