so i finally found a little baby boy i wanted, and my girlfriend got him for me today as an early birthday present... i'm going to take him in and get him checked out this week, but my question is... well, on the way home, she had him on her lap, and he's just this tiny little thing, so adorable! but he jumped off her lap and onto the floor, then poof! nowhere to be seen. she freaked out, she felt awful and kept saying he's dead! he's dead! and thought it was her fault... i felt so bad, but we got home and after some digging and tearing the car apart (literally, i have so much paneling and carpeting to put back together) he was found, safe... but he was up in this very tricky place to reach, and it took a little... "manhandling"?? to get him out, i mean i had to like hold on to one of his paws and wait for him to relaxe a little and slide a little more, it took around a half hour... the whole time he was chirping like my older boar does when he's content or happy, so i'm not sure if it was stressful for him or if it was like a "haha,i made you do stuff" kind of prankster satisfaction. i just don't want him to be horribly emotionally scarred! if anyone could help, stories of similar situations or anything, it'd make my girlfriend and i both feel a lot better. thanks!!

Children go through worse trauma and survive nicely. He should be fine!

Best wishes,
Marie

well we found him, and we began the day by keeping the new little baby in a separate cage right next to our grown fella zodiac. well, in his own cage our new baby just sat in a corner, and looked soooo sad, and as soon as zodiac smelled him he started wheeking soooo loud, for like three hours. so i finally put the baby in the same cage as him (i was going to let it grow a little bigger first in case they fought a bit) but as it turns out, zodiac did the territorial dance of grunts and struts for like two minutes, and after that they both started popcorning all over and they're getting along great. after what i've read, i never would have dreamed two males would get along so well so quickly! i'm so glad they're happy! haha, they're actually all cuddled up together right now, i can't express how happy i am that they've gotten on so well already. thanks for reading, anyone who cares, this thread is more of a "success story" than any plea for advice. thanks again!

ps it took us a while, but we've decided to name the baby guisseppe, with possible middle and last name installations to come. we've deliberated on this one for quite some time, but think it's fitting. he's such an adventerous little guy, he doesn't stay in his hidey house very long before he's out again, running around popcorning and exploring. ^_^

Congradulations!!!

My males were the same way, it only took a minute and they were fine. I think that they were so happy to have a friend they just forgot to do the "male thing!"

Hope all continues to go well.
Marie

P.S. I really like his name!

Congrats! I have wanted to get another baby girl so Amy would have some company (she looks so bored and she sleeps all day like there isnt anything better to do.) But I would have to convince my mother(who isnt quite as fond of amy as I am hehe)
Also when I first got Amy I would put her in the bathroom for floor time. But once when she was crawling around by the sink she found a pretty big hole in the cabnient and jumped into it before I could stop her. I didnt even know there was a hole like that! Well I had to rip apart the entire sink to get her out without harming her. Amd she was just sitting there like she was completly comfortable. Believe me that was the last time we ever had floor time in the bathroom!

woah! Was your mum upset that you had to rip your bathroom to shreds (he he, well the sink)? Oops, I was thinking of letting my pigs run around in the bathroom. Never know, could get stuck behind the toilet! Where does she have floor time now?

Floor time place

Yea my mum was pretty upset. Well, I used to give her floor time in the room towards the front of the house where her old cage was. But it was hard wood and I dont want to corry her downstairs everyday. So I am going to try a few new places. I think I will close up a large section of the hallway outside of the room she is in. It has no wires and now furniture for her to get behind. It will also be easy to close off with extra grids. The only problem would be the carpets. I will have to figure out what to put down on top of them to keep them clean

I put down a flannel sheet that is folded in half. I also put down a shoe box with some hay in on one side of it. They poop all over, but they pee in the shoebox next to the hay. (I used to put the hay on the sheet, but they peed in the hay once so I just put it in the shoe box to cover all bases. I have their hay in their cage in such a way that they can't sit in it!) I just shake the sheet outside when I'm done and fold it up for next time.

We give our pigs floor time in the hallway. I bought a baby gate and it goes in the doorway between the hall and the living room. Then we just close all the doors and there is nowhere for them to escape to!!!

I like the sheet and shoe box idea!! I think I might try that. I usually just vaccuum up after them, this sounds easier!!!
