I was just talking to my sister on AIM (she just went to college ) and I was telling her how I was thinking about ruthie getting a buddy. She told me that her friend once had piggies and during the night one killed the other.

I never even want to take the slightest chance that that would EVER happen to my baby ruth.

What do you guys think?

i woulds blame it on the guinea pigs - i would say its the owners fault. The poor pigs were probably kept in a hostile environment, little food, little water, and few or no comforts. If you take care of them properly, this shouldnt happen. Totally get ruthie a buddy!

besides, some humans in certain places of the world eat other humans when they are hungry or for whatever reason. That doesnt mean we shoulsdnt socialize with other humans. This is just one rare case, dont let it change your mind.

I highly doubt this would ever happen if you got Ruthie a friend. I agree with loves2travel they probably didn't get along to begin with. And then having no food or water and a tiny space could have just set one off. The normal fighting could have turned into mean and nasty fighting.. I would go ahead and get Ruthie a friend.

I agree totally! And for another thing, how could the owner not know that one pig was killing the other!? I mean, we've all heard how they wheek when they know they are about to get their veggies, can you imagin how load that must have been when they were fighting!? I highly doubt that was the real story, I would be more apt to think it was an owner related thing like not feeding them or something like that.

Ruthie would be better off with a buddy. You think she's happyt now, just wait till she finally gets to meet her new buddy!! Trust me, I had four, in two's and when I put them all together, they are like four different pigs! They are much happier!!

Do they go thru the quaratine & introduction steps?

mine?? Heck yeah!! I waited and waited and waited! lol I wasn't going to take the chance of getting my first two babies sick! As it was one that I adopted was sick with a respitory infection and conjunctivitis...so yeah, I definately took that advice!

yup. ruthie DEFINATELY shoudl get a buddy. Dont even think twice or doubt that for a second.
