Well I visited the vet with my GP today. We got a nail trim and then I asked them to do a gender check because I am planning to get anther piggy (yea!) Well I have had Amy for four years and thought she was a girl and she is really a guy!!! I was pretty upset at first! My 5 year old sister is still upset. We are trying do decide if we want to change his name. Maybe Reese's?? How upsetting!!! It seems the person where I got him from didnt know what they were talking about!

Sounds like a name change is in order, but maybe it will take some time to sit with this sudden change. It seems like I keep checking my piggy's "private parts" every other day to see if I still think she's a girl now that I'm considering getting her a "sister". Let us know if your "Amy" gets a new name!

Oh, wow! 4 years and you didn't know? Didn't you go for vet check ups because they would have told you the sex before

He has only been to the vet once before when he had mites. That was when my dad took him cause I was at school. He said that they didnt even check. I guess when we got him he was to little to tell the real sex.
I am really leaning toward Resse's to be his new name. His coloring is dark brown and an orange color so it would fit him perfectly. That was the name I was leaning toward when I first got him but I decided to go for a more feminine sounding name LOL.
It will sure be hard after 4 years of calling him Amy and her, to start callng him Resse's and him.

i'm sorry she is a he! how peculiar, no veil just had a similar story as well. is there some global phenomenon that changes the sex of our guinea pigs??? *astonished gasp from crowd*

Maybe choose something close to Amy...like Andy? We actually are doing good calling Sirius by his new name. We are bad about using the feminine though...like "Aw, look at Sirius! She is popcorning!"

hehe, noveil and kmkrazy, i guess the sex change will just take some time to get used to. i just cant imagine being in that situation!

wow 4 years thats tough. you werent able to notice its um, private parts? guinea pigs tend to get pretty big 'parts' for their body ratio.

anyway a name change sounds good. good luck with it and let us know what you decide.

Well... he is still your lovely piggie... If me I would stay with the current name because is being called for so many years, everyone used to it already

i would probably end up doing like kenneth. hey, there are girls named kyle and ryley, and guys named kelly. why not a guy named amy?
