My boar, Figaro was treated in the ER for getting a huge piece of hay stuck in his eye. His eye was extremely puffy and agitated so my vet prescribed him some eye drops and metacam to get the swelling of the eye down. After about four days on the metacam I noticed that he wasn't pooping as much and that his stools were a bit watery. I called my vet but my small animal vet won't be in until tomorrow. I've been feeding him just hay and pellets and of course plenty of water and theyve seemed to harden up a bit (Ive put a temporary halt on the veggies because I know they contain a lot of water). I've separated my two pigs but they're freaking out because they hate being alone, I'm just trying to see how much he's pooping because its hard to tell which poops are his with two in the cage. Any advice? He's eating plenty and drinking normally as well.

Get some infant simethicone (any pharmacy) and give him 1/4 of the smallest dose recommended for a baby.

I wouldn't withhold his vegetables -- you don't want to restrict water in any way if he's not pooping as much.

If his eye looks better, I'd taper him off the metacam. It can slow the digestive tract down, and may be the cause of his troubles.

Can I put them back together or would you recommend keeping my pigs apart for the day so I can monitor them? I just feel bad I can tell their lonely.

Why would you separate them? You only need to do that if one of them is sick with a communicable illness, not a hay poke in the eye. Yes, put them back together.

I separated them to keep track of Figaro's stools. I couldn't tell what poops belonged to who.
