My pig just recovered from a URI and its been almost 3 weeks since I've heard him wheeking. He used to have such a beautiful voice. He's back to normal in every other way, he's eating like, well, a pig...I'm wondering will he every wheek again? Has anyone else had a pig 'lose' their voice after an illness. How long do they take to get back to normal after a URI??

He's also done sort of a Dr Jekyll/Mr Hyde thing. He used to so antisocial, teeth chattering at me all the time and hating to be held. Now he's the sweetest thing and will eat while I hold him, it's like someone's switched pigs on me. Anyone else seen a change in their pigs' personality after an illness?

I think he will wheek for you again in time, recovering from a URI takes puts stress on the body. He's probably just not 100% yet. I doubt he has lost his voice permanently, so I wouldn't worry about that. I've not yet dealt with illness in guinea pigs yet, but have with a couple of my chinchillas. I noticed they both became a lot more sweet and wanted to be babied after their recovery. Probably holds true for guinea pigs too. :)

I had a foster pig who developed a cold while in my care. She was pretty social before she was sick, but developed into the most loving pig. I actually cried when she was adopted - she and I had a bond I don't seem to have with my own pigs - guess nursing a sick animal back to health forms a different type of relationship.
