Nipped by my piggy

I've been nipped a couple of times by one of my piggies. Before I stroke or handle them, they usually like to sniff me first, so I let them have a sniff of my hand. She didn't bite very hard. No blood was drawn. I think she might have thought I had food for her. I'd washed my hands so there wouldn't have been any trace of food smells. They didn't seem to be agressive nips and she let me handle her no problem afterwards. I wonder, does anyone else get this with their piggies?

Go to (broken link removed) then click on articals and scroll till you find "Little Nippers", Should be near the top.

My piggy bites (and will draw blood if I'm not careful) because she doesn't like to be picked up or carried. She's getting better with being held on my lap but I think she's still young so she doesn't really like to just sit still and sit there....she'd much rather be running around for floor time. I swear, though, that she hasn't read the books or websites because I may have one of the only piggies that has absolutely no problem biting to get her point across and won't eat any lettuce except the twiggy looking kind that you can't buy separately in the store! Oh well, I still love her!

MilesWaterson--That's completely normal. My pigs love to "taste" me! They just put their mouths around my finger, they don't really nip. It's just a light touch, really--I think they may use this to help identify me.

sometimes when they nibble their saying either they want to be put down and they've had enough, or that the want to go to the litter box

sometimes Cujo will put his teethe to my lip or my nose and also my finger but he won't bite down - it's almost like he just wants me to feel that he has teeth. As long as no blood is drawn I wouldn't be concerned about it. I think it's kind of cute. He will also nibble on my arm hair - why I don't know because there isn't much there but he will lick and nibble on it! Silly Pig!

Thanks for the advice and link to that article. I'm not worried at the moment, because don't think it is agressive. I think it's similar behaviour to that of cujo's. I think when it happened the first time I was just a bit suprised and thoughts of severed fingers flashed through my mind. lol
