Hey everyone I’m new here to the guinea pig world. We have 2 boars, hopper and flash, both about 5 months old. We are wanting to get a 3rd boar fairly soon and are going to upgrade to a C&C cage, we have 2 Midwest cages right now and I don’t really like them. We have room for a 2x4 C&C but I know that alone is not big enough for 3 boars but I’m wondering if I put a 2x2 loft in will that be big enough for 3? Or is that still not enough space? You’re thoughts and ideas are super appreciated! Thanks and nice to meet everyone!

Welcome to the forum! Your boys are adorable.

Looks like you're well on your way. A 2X4 is really not big enough for two boars, a 3x4 or a 2x5 would be more appropriate.

Whatever you do, DO NOT add a third boar. Don't add a female, either. For some reason, nature has decided that three boars together do not work. I tried it myself, thinking that a pair of babies would be fine with an adult boar and they were, for about 5 months. When the babies hit puberty, war broke out.

Three just seems to be a number where it doesn't work. You will more than likely end up with serious injuries and three very upset, angry pigs who won't live together at the very least.

Please don't get a third boar. Read up on it, it is basically a perfect plan to ruin existing boar bonds, create more fighting, and in the end you will have 2 boars and a lone boar, or all 3 boars will not get along and need to be seperated. If you want more more pigs, consider adopting a boar pair and put them in their own cage.

Agreed. No. third. boar. It fails about 99.5% of the time. And no spayed female. One male can live with multiple females, but multiple males will fight over females, even they boars are neutered and the female is spayed.

Welcome to the forum!

Oh wow I had no idea 2 together was the magic number. Well I’ll have to think a little longer about what I’m going to do. My fiancé wants his own piggy but now I’m thinking we’ll just continue to love the 2 we have. This is why I asked and I sure am glad I did. Thank you for the info.

If he wants his own pig, see if he'd like his own pair instead! You can set up 2 cages on a folding table if you don't have much space - I have a folding table with my 2x5 on top and a 2x4 on the floor under it between the legs.

Welcome aboard! They are so cute :) I'm also new here, glad to join your family!!
