Newspaper Ads or Rescue?

My 12yr old niece just called and after seeing our girls, she's talked her mom into adopting 2 gps. My question is: her mom found some in the local paper free to good home gps (many colors) or would it be better to rescue from a shelter/rescue group? Is one better than the other? Just wondering what to tell her. Thanks!!

I would go with the shelter or rescue group. Free to good home in the paper could easily be a breeder that either had some that they didn't think were show quality, couldn't sell, or had too many for snake food.

Why not have her mom contact the people who placed the ad first? Chances are, if it's a case of someone bringing home a pregnant pig from a pet store, the babies will either go back to the store or to a rescue anyways, if not to someone who will use them as "feeders." (Eck, what an awful term.)

I don't see why she should not adopt them. They will most likely end up in worse hands if she dosen't and they deserve a good home too.

I think that she can go to the house, check it out. It probibly babies from preg sow. If it is a breeder, you will know when you get there. I say rescue them. Just be aware that you have no guarentee about mites/ already being pregnant. You may get a healthier one from a rescue. But, if you do not care and are willing to put the money into them, and give them a forever home, I say go for it! :0)

If the ad is a breeder in any way, shape or form, go with the rescue.
