Newer Piggy

When I first got my piggy, who was saved from a shelter, I always thought she was sick-if you can remember me posting about sneezing and such. Now my vet and I have just accepted that maybe she likes to sneeze so she can get lots of attention! hehehe. Anyway the only reason I didn't want to get another piggy is because my piggy (Lucy) I thought was sick. Now that I know she's perfectly health and she ain't going anywhere I would LOVE to get her another friend. I already have plans started on building the cage almost 3 times larger (that includes the new upper floor). The problem is I don't know how she is going to react. Lucy is very friendly (she likes when I hold her; she likes floor time; and of course she likes her food even more) but I'm afraid of getting her a friend because she may feel that that piggy is taking over. The shelter has just recently taken in another female piggy as it turns out. That pig is very cute! and I just can't stand it being in that small of a cage. I was hoping to buy it and after about three weeks start housing it with Lucy, just to make sure the new on isn't sick.

I guess my question is I'm afraid that they aren't gonna get along; I guess I could always build another seperate cage but that would just defeat the whole darn purpose of getting another pig. Lucy needs a friend (other then myself). I also don't know how old lucy is or the new pig if that makes a difference.

Could someone give me a little guidence on where to go next, thanks!0]

Re: Newer Piggy

I had the same worries when looking for a friend for my baby boar. I was lucky and they got along great from the first time I introduced them :) Generally, it seems that sows have less problems getting along together and if you are building a new cage then they will be being put into neutral surroundings too (give anything lucy has used a good clean, just to be sure) I have 8 sows and have not had any real problems introducting any of them. If they don't get along the best thing to do would be to divide the cage so they can still see and talk to each other but won't be able to fight.
Hope everything goes well :)
