Newbie!

Hi everyone!

I'm a newbie here & I thought I'd jump in and introduce myself.
My name is Erika. I'm 21 years old, married to a wonderful man, & we have a 10 month old son who keeps me very busy.

And the reason I'm here - we have an adorable guinea pig, named Lucy (hence my username) :)
I'm fairly new to guinea pigs, although I do have a lot of experience with rabbits. I know they are quite different though, so I thought I'd join this group & see what I could learn.

We bought Lucy from a petstore about 2 months ago. She was a baby - I'm not sure exactly how old.
At first we put her in a 10 gallon aquarium, but after doing more research, I learned that's really not the best for guinea pigs. So we went to Petco & bought a $75 cavy/bunny cage. It's 1.5'x2.5' & it has a ramp with a second level that Lucy loves to go sit on.
She's quite friendly & everytime she hears our fridge open, she squeals because she wants a carrot or lettuce.

We let her run around almost every evening in a blocked off area in our living room. She loves it.

Well there's a little info about me & my guinea pig.

I look forward to getting to know you all & sharing guinea pig stories/advice! :)

Re: Newbie!

Is the bunny cage wire bottomed on any part of it?

If so you need to either ditch it or cover it with something, because wire bottoms can break a guinea pigs legs and hurt it's feet.

Is there any way you could get a C&C cage because these are more spacious and MUCH cheaper than one the same size that you would find at a store.

Also guinea pigs are social animals which need same species companionship and Lucy would probably get along grea with another female!

Re: Newbie!

Nooo, the cage does NOT have a wire bottom on it.
I said it was a "cavy" cage. I did enough research before hand to know that you can't put a cavy in a wire-bottom cage.
What is a C&C cage? I've never heard of that before.

We are considering getting Lucy a "buddy" but because we might be moving soon (my hubby got an unexpected job offer out of state) we're waiting until we know for sure what's going on with that.
