I am attempting to build a c&c cage. Just wondering is a 2X4 grid better than 3X3 grid? I havn't seen this so just wondering if there is a reason, as 3X3 might fit my space better. Also the grids I have 8 spaces and are 1 3/4 inches wide...is this safe?

You want the 9 spaced grids. With the 8 spaced ones the guinea pigs can get their heads stuck in them and hurt or kill themselves.

A 3x3 has more square feet than a 2x4. Either one is fine. Most people don't make their cages 3 wide because they can more more difficult to clean but if it works for you there is nothing wrong with making it that size.

So if I stagger a 8 spaced grid then I need to cut them so they meet at the corners?

You can stagger them like this. No cutting needed.
