Hi,
I don't yet have any piggies, but am in the process of learning about them and the best ways to care for them before bringing any into our family. A little about us: we have a 5 person and 2 bird family. Myself, my wife, 3 children (5, 7, 9 years old), a 10 year old normal male cockatiel and a 9 year old bourke's parakeet.
So far, I've been reading the Barron's guide to Guinea pigs (and have learned on this site that exercise balls and wheels are actually not good for GPs). I've learned a lot about C&C cages (and found a signmaker about a mile from my home who sold me a 4' x 8' sheet of coroplast for $28), found a local source for cubes, and have space scoped out in our family room for the cage. I've also learned so much about fleece & furniture pad bedding.
I will try to keep learning and be sure to make an informed decision and not just jump into adding piggies to the family.
thank you all for sharing so much information.
