We got a new piggy today! Her name is MochaLatte and she is so cute! She and Precious don't get along really well so far. Does anybody have tips for bonding two piggies?

Congrats on the new addition.

1) You NEED to quarantine this pig for at least 2 weeks. What if she has mites? She may have passed them onto precious
2) Check out her sex - you can never be too sure
3) Introduce them on neutral territory
4) Mounting and aggresive behaviour are normal. Only seperate if there is bloodshed
5) If all else fails, give them a "buddy bath".

Um...I know this sounds sort of dumb, but...uh...what is a buddy bath?

You give them a bath together. It's scary for most guinea pigs so they turn to each other for safety and build a friendship. You can use the sink but the method that I found works is the bathtub. Get the water to the right temp(warm but not hot) and set the 2 pigs in the back of the tub. Run as much water out of the faucet as possible so it's noisy then plug the drain. When you have a few inches of water turn off the water and pull the guinea pigs into the deeper part. Pour some water over them and if you want you can use a little pet shampoo to clean their rear ends and tummies. Rinse, dry, and wrap them in a towel together. Set them in a pen and they should bond. The more they are next to each other the more they more likely they are to become friends. So far it's worked with 2 very agressive males that drew blood on both their cagemates.

I had to ask what a buddy bath is too. I haven't had to give one though as my girls have established a friendly relationship with each other. Hopefully yours will aslo establish their own hierarchy and get along well as time goes by.

Oh, that's cool. would it work even if they've never had baths before?

According to what I've read about buddy baths it doesn't matter whether they're used to baths or not. They don't like the experience, which gives them a common bond when they have to take one together.

It would probably work better if they'd never had a bath before. Then they'd be even more upset at this new event.

Remember buddy baths are a last resort.
