Okay, for those that don't recall... I have four girls. They're CURRENTLY in a 2x4 C&C.

I just moved into my new apartment, though! So I'll be expanding their cage into a 2x6, 2x6 L, or 2x6 T. Possibly larger, but I'll be done either tomorrow or the next day. =D I just have to get the coroplast.

Anyways... remember Ginger? She's the one my coworker adopted because she was pregnant, and I ended up with her and one of the pups. Another coworker got the other one.

I was expecting this - she decided she didn't want the piggy anymore. =( So I now have the whole family (minus dad). This is great, and fine with me.

My coworker named the piggy "Roxanne" because... well, she thought it was a girl.

Thought.

It's a boy. o.o; He's in my old store cage (it's about 1.5'x3'), with a little hidey, a bunch of hay, food, and some water. He's happy.

I just wasn't expecting a boy. o.o; Should I get him neutered and put him with my four girls, or what? I don't think I have enough room for another big cage, nor do I have the desire to build another one, honestly -.-;

How much did neutering cost for y'all?

I have mixed feelings about this. I'm REALLY happy and excited about having another piggy, but at the same time... he's awful lonely, and it's such a big hassle to deal with it. Should I rehome him? He cuddled with me and nibbled on the tip of my nose already, and I think I love the little guy too much already to give him up.

-.-; What would you do?

His cage is sitting next to the girls' cage, and they keep peeking over the coroplast at each other and having conversations 'n such. I have to quarantine him anyways, but... what to do afterwards?

I personally would have him neutered, neutered pigs are ever so happy with their harems . . . ;~)

I would neuter him. He would be happier with the sows and you wouldn't have to build another cage.

I don't know how much it would cost to neuter, my boys are fertile.

I'd get him neutered too. Can you build a 3x5 C&C cage? It would be a great size for 5 piggies.

How much will neutering cost? o.o;

Can range anywhere from $60 to $300. Do you have a good, experienced vet? If now, look at www.aemv.org and email vets to see how much neutering costs. That's what I did. *__*

Okay, so I've been thinking about it... I don't have room for a 3x5 cage, unfortunately. I can do (essentially) a 2x6 L or T, with an upper level. I've attached some quick pics of what I have in mind. The red box represents the 2nd level.

As for neutering... if I can't find a good vet up in Plano/Richardson, I'll take him to the one in downtown Dallas that TX Rustlers goes to. ^.^;

What d'y'all think?

I like the last one personally. Corner cages take up less space, and they're fun fo the pigs. I like the loft position in that one too. Good luck building and nuetering!

I like the middle one...I agree that L shaped cages are a really good idea.

I would say the middle one. I have an L shaped 2x6 for my two piggies and they love it!

Okay, we've all agreed on the L-shape then... which loft? The long 1x4, or the 2x2?

2 by 2 I think more will fit up there.

I vote long 1X4 loft. It'll cut off less light from the bottom level overall. Or maybe an L shaped loft all along the long walls (1X4 on each side).

I would do a 2x2 it is wider so you can put more things up there.

I vote the 1x4 it will be easier to reach under and clean the cage or catch piggies.

1x4. The lofts that are 1 grid wide are easier to support. You would have to put support underneath a 2x2.

The 1x4 the 2x2 would make it hard to clean the back corner.

I would do the 1x4 also, as the 2x2 will be too hard to clean under.

I made a 1x4 loft and my pigs don't put a toe on it. :( Bonnie waddled across it once, then went back downstairs. The others didn't even try - Zirbel made it as far as the ramp, but that was it. They all love cuddling together under it though, so it wasn't a total waste.

I'd vote for a 1x2.

Yeah, you might want to consider if you really want a loft. I have built a few and for the amount it is used, it's not worth all the hassle it creates at cleaning time. If you really want a loft, I vote for the 1x4 or a 1x3 L in the corner. It will be much easier for cleaning. The 1x3 would make the cage more symmetric looking, and it might be more efficient for the coroplast because you wouldn't need such a long piece. The position that the 2x2 is in seems like it would really hinder your access to all of the cage.
