New Piggie!

I love guinea pigs. I've wanted one for so long, and my boyfriend says that I've got 'Guinea Madness'. I want one so bad! I've been saving and reading everything I can, and have a good $200.00 to spend on getting started.
I'm now working only part time, and have plenty of time to devote to a new pig.. But I want to know... What advice do you have as far as a 'Starter Kit'.. I mean, what brands of food are best for them, and for a young pig, what kinds of veggies and hay should I provide..
And getting to the fun part.. Toys!! What kind of toys to your pigs like best? Usually it's the most simple and inexpensive toys that they like. Ideas?

Check out guineapigcages.com
They have the best ideas on cages, you can build your own and save money.
Your local shelters may have pigs needing adoption. Also call around to the vets in your area they may know people who also have some for adoption. As a last resort buy one from the pet store. We bought one from the pet store and found out later she was pregnant, now we have 3.

Save your money for the vet bills.

Peter Gurneys web site and Seaguls Guinea Pig Compendium have the best care guides available

Good Luck!

CavyCages are the bomb!

I've designed a cage inspired from CavyCages, and that's what I'm using half the money for. You guys say that pigloos are good, So I'm getting one of those. My Uncle Mike has a ranch, so I'll see about some hay from him. I already found a vet that specializes in small animals. I found him through the this web site devoted to rats, and you all might check that page. (broken link removed)
It's got listings for vets that specialize in small animals.. Oh, and I've called around and left my number for a Guinea if one shows up in a shelter. This board has taught me a lot about the care of these sweet little critters. Thanks!
