They are the ones who should look for the guinea pigs after being born, being responsible where they end up. We are just gathering the pieces of their irresponsibility dear purple_kiwi.

Yes I understand that but I also think you are blinded by how you view what you are doing. Breeders will continue, no matter what you do. You only see the bad side of what I did because thats the only side you want to see. You don't see the good (in a sense) in how if you get from a breeder and don't breed that guinea pig that could have ended up in a breeding program you are keeping from more guinea pigs being born which yes it may fund the breeder but it also keeps the population down by how ever many that sow is able to produce. Which I don't see why it is so hard for you to understand.

Not every one will adopted. I believe instead of being so straight forward and hating everyone because they buy from a pet store or a breeder you need to understand that you have to deal with it and realize they won't stop. There are so many factors involved in buying or adopting and you can not deal with every single one.

Even if you don't want to admit it even by owning your pets you have supported a breeder. We only have pets because people decided they wanted them so BREEDERS bred them to relay on us. Thus owning a pet means you supported this foundation even if you did adopted. If you truly were against breeders you wouldn't even own a pet.

Breeders will continue, no matter what you do.

No... breeders will continue as long as people provide them with money to do it by purchasing their animals. Some will continue as long as they can dump unwanted offspring, even if they aren't getting paid for it.

Even IF the breeder is keeping them in C&C cages and feeding the proper diet and providing medical care, and neutering all their guinea pigs before selling them to prevent them from reproducing, and takes back any returns, she is still risking the sows' lives by breeding and adding pigs to the population.

Maybe you should read Breeding Guinea Pigs

People will breed even if they don't get money for it, if breeders never got money some one would probably figure out how to make money for it. Humans do anything to get the feeling of playing god, or have fun, or see the babies anything like that. Like I said there are more factors then you believe effecting why people breed. You are not ever going to stop breeders.

you think they should stop breeding. so pretty much to me if they stopped they would be an endangered species and your just gonna let them become that? your the murders here! not right away for eventually they could. and your willing to let them die because you think it's doing right, when its not its more guinea pigs dieing because of what you stand for. just because their from a breeder doesn't mean they shouldn't be given a good home,

Well that gave me a good laugh. :cheerful: You obviously don't understand anything about overpopulation and the problems guinea pigs (and all animals) face everyday when they die of starvation because of irresponsible breeders. "But they let it die!" You say. Well it would never have been in that situation if a breeder (much like the one purple_kiwi is buying from) didn't sell them a guinea pig.

Thats the difference between a rescue and a breeder. Rescues actually care about the well being of the animals where as breeders "care" about them until they ship them off to an uknown place.

Also, guinea pigs will probably never go "extinct". There will always be accidental pregnancies and a guinea pig getting loose.
Purple_kiwi- If this person is so nice why do you keep calling BUYING this pig rescuing?

I disagree. Either breeders are in it for "wittle babies", which they often end up selling for ten dollors on cragislist (<--obiviously not alot) or they claim its a purebred so some dumb idiot will buy it for 80-100 dollars.

You are not ever going to stop breeders.

Not with that attitudewe won't. And not with people like *you* supporting it.

I understand eveyones' views and the need to stress them but honestly I don't think there is any need to come off in any way as insulting or threatening, after all everyone is entitled to their opinions and I think we should show support in any way without the need to resort to hostility.
This isn't for everyone who responded, I believe this person had a genuine concern and wanted to share with the group.

I know that it is a heated topic, But I do truly think that we can get our views and ideas out with out taking what others say so personally.
Judgment of a persons character, age and maturity does not have to happen in this fourm to get "ones" veiws and opinions across. There is no need to be rude or to gang up on another member. This does not help your values and opinions get across to the other person in a very possitive way. If members truly wanted to get there thoughts across to others members they would learn how to have a heated debate with out making it into a personal agruement.

I completely agree with you.

Purple, you are talking in circles.

You buying guinea pigs from this breeder only creates a demand so she will breed more. And if she doesn't breed the sow you bought, she will just breed the mom or her sister instead. So you didn't really do anything but buy from a breeder and put money in their pocket, and created a demand for her pigs.

You never really answered whether you intend on buying all their pigs to 'save' them? That's the only way you will make a dent.

Or maybe you should adopt and truly rescue instead.

Home the homeless ones already created by irresponsible breeding. Don't buy purpose bred ones that will be replaced by more. Meanwhile shelter pigs die.
