I have 5 guinea pigs. Two adult females. one neutered male(son of one of females), and two female babies(one from each adult female 4 and 5 weeks of age).
The adult females came from the rspca and one was pregnant. she had one male baby, who i kept and got neutured. Before this could be done he got both females pregnant. The mother of the male had two babies a week before the second female who had four, but sadly only two survived.
The male was removed from the group, and was joined 2 weeks later by his mother and her two babies.
Last weekend the two baby boys were rehomed (one from each mother) leaving the above group.
I am trying to reintroduce all the guinea pigs, but am having problems.
The mothers fight very badly, and the babies fight also. The mother of the neutered male seems the more agressive, but her female baby is being bullyied by the other female baby.
Any ideas? are the babies too young for the bathing technique? Should i wait a while before introducing the mothers and their babies? I do think that the younger baby is still feeding from its mother, would this be part of the problem?

Hi Jo - Welcome to the forum.
Now let's see --- the moms fight and the babies fight... I don't have any great advice, but I am wondering about the size of your cage or cages -- in a close space, anybody would want to fight. Also, is it just a bit of tusseling and chasing, or is it an out-and-out fur-flying blood-drawing fight? With a bit more info, I think some of our members could give you some good recommendations.

Perhaps post some cage pictures as well.

Welcome Jo!

This is just too much to take in! I've only had 1 coffee and it's like trying to put a jigsaw puzzle together blindfolded! Now I've got a headache!

Is it possible your cage is over crowded? You might have to split them up and see who like's who , start all over again! I still think they all need their own space so maybe give them a new bigger home and see what happens.
Good luck!

How big are your cages? Are there multiple food dishes and hidey areas?

Have they seen a vet recently? They may have mites or other illnesses. If one is weak, or they sense illnesses, they attack and try to become dominant.

Thanks, i will take some photos and get back to you.
