new aggression! HELP Please!

Does anyone know if this is true......when you get a new piggie and you quarentine it you should have it in a cage by itself and in a totally different room for the 2 or so weeks because if it has something like pnamonia , that is an air born virus and the other piggies can still get it if they are in the same room even in seperate cages??? I was told this by a vet. It sounds like it could be a good idea, just wanted to share that.

yes that is correct. it should be in a seperate cage and in different rooms. also, remember to handle the new guinea pigs being quarintined last, as not to spread the germs, if any.

Yes, see www.cavyspirit.com/sociallife.htm and scroll down.

You have a fine amount of grids then! You have enough to make a 2x5, in fact. For the coroplast, are you or any of your neighbors displaying political signs? Those work great-- just grab one.

Enough for a 2x5???? But i only have four grids!!!!!!! You must have read wrong and imaginedthere was a 1 in front of the 4. lol.

i got another idea, but i want your guys' suggestions first. Could i put her in one of those big, clear rubbermaid boxes? this one is about 18" high and is four and a half square feet. I wouldnt keep the lid on. this way, i could put them in another room, and i wouldnt have to get more coroplast as i already have lots of these rubbermaid boxes. (remember, this is only if they get sick, or if they have to be quarantined for a little bit)

what do you think?

it wouldnt let in too much ventilation. expecially if you are keeping a sick pig in there, you want it to be as comfortable as possible. you dont want to have the piggie breathing in all the ammonia in the cage. it may make him worse.

see if you can find a used pet-store cage at the local good will or something. the shelters down here sell used cages for a very reasonalbe price. see if your has any.

loves2travel, you said you have a 2x3 right now. That would look like this:
_____
|.....|
|.....|
|.....|
------

The 2x5 would look like this:
_____
|.....|
|.....|
|.....|
|.....| <--extra grids (2)
|.....| <--extra grids (2)
------

So, if you can find the coroplast, you can make one. Just a thought. For quarantine, you can use a laundry basket if it's big enough. Those have a bunch of ventilation.
