Well here I am all uppity up thinking wow I have great piggies who just love to sit and be petted. How nice they just lay there all sprawled out while my arm is aching. Last night I had a start. While nickel was being petted on my lap in my bed my husband startled her so that she went flying off my lap across the bed and zoomed off. With my heart in my throat praying "please don't have a broken leg, or a broken belly, or a broken anything while also praying, please dont go under the bed", I gently got off the bed and captured her. A few kisses later and thinking now she hates me and she will never be my friend again I put her back in the cage.

She has forgotten all about it and yes she is still my friend and nothing is broken.

My point is........NEVER LET DOWN YOUR GUARD DOWN.....no matter how much you think you know your piggies or no matter how much you think she won't dart off... SHE WILL.....always be careful.

Good advice. Thanks for sharing. Right now my guard is always up when holding my girls, but once I get more used to them I might forget. I will try to remember your advice.

I somehow accidentally drifted off to sleep while holding Charlie on my bed one time a month or so ago... thank GOD he didn't run off the bed (he's tried before, but this time he didn't!) I woke up a few minutes later to him nibbling on my toes! It scared me so much, but now I know better!

My older pig is pretty good, but I have never forgotten that she lacks the good sense not to do something like that; she never really tries, but her personality makes it hard to forget. My two little ones are on suicide watch though!

Yup, same thing happened with me once. My piggie quite often sprawls out in my arms and falls asleep. One day a noise scared him and he went running off the couch and into his cage (which is right next to the couch). My heart was racing a million miles a minute, but everything turned out fine.

I totally agree, they sure can surprise us.

That happened to me too, my brother startled mmy pigs and she ran and fell off the bed. I was SO scared. Thank god she landed on a pile of clothes and was not hurt.

Glad to know she didn't get stuck underneath anything! Same thing happened to me on monday. They were in my garden and so was I. I was just lying down with Ascot on my chest, my dad comes over and he runs off. Eek. The garden gate was open too... and everytime I tried to catch him he just ran further away. Luckily, I caught him, but by the legs.

I was holding Chardonnay (didn't name her), my most chubby piggy, and suddenly (i wasn't paying very good attention) she runs out of my lap and under my bureau. The space where she went is only about 3 inches high, so i couldn't get her out with my hands. So, i ended up moving my entire at least 100 lb bureau to retreive my sly little piggy.

Man do they run fast!!!!!
