my piggie just got fixed how long does it take to recover?

When my Tony was neutered it didn't take that long for him to recover. He will be groggy and a little sore for a few days.

He needs to be away from females for about three-four weeks.

no, he has no meds. i dont rea lly need to separate him mbecause my female is pregnant right now so he won try anything(HOPEFULLY)

thanks for the info everyone it helped.he doesnt seem that grooghy anymore hes kinda just taking it easy.......

he had to fasted but on the link it said they didn't.Is that going cause a problem or should he be ok?

Antibiotics after surgery are a prevenative. Its to stop an infection before it starts. Its ok if he doesn't have it, just watch him for symptoms. And swelling, tenderness, or puss.

Pain meds can make him feel more comfortable. Some guinea pigs don't eat or drink when they are in pain. If he is eating and drinking fine, I'm sure its ok. I wouldn't handle him much because he's probably sore.

He can get the female pregnant right after she gives birth. If she's almost going to have the pups, I would separate them to make sure he doesn't back breed her. Also, after surgery for a couple of days you may want to keep him in a small area so he can't run around too crazy and rip out his stiches.

If your vet didn't say he needs to fast, that's ok. It depends on the procedure and what medications they use.

I'm glad he's not groggy anymore. Good luck!

Making a piggie fast is a bad thing to do as their systems shut down rather quickly. I am surprised the vet didn't give you meds for aftercare. From talking to several people that had pigs neutered, (one is a rescuer), they need to be kept separate from other pigs until they are healed. It takes about 4 weeks for the sperm to completely die off.

He seems to be ok now.I'll just watch out for infection and make sure he is eating.
