Neutered male quarantine question...

Spike was neutered 2 1/2 weeks ago, and he is still separate from my female pigs to make sure his neutering is in full effect. Everywhere I have read says two weeks is enough time for them to be separated for the neutering to be in effect for sure. Well, I took Spike to the vet and she said that I should keep them separate for 1 1/2 months to be sure the girls don't get pregnant! She says she has heard of pigs getting pregnant that long after a male is neutered. Has anyone heard of this? The reason I ask is that I am leaving for vacation on Friday and won't be back for 3 weeks. I was thinking of introducing Spike to the girls before then so my husband doesn't have to deal with that while I am gone. Plus he is also going out of the country during that time for a week. Should I just be safe and wait til I am back to put him in with the girls? I just feel bad because he is in a petstore cage right now, and he can hear the girls and they call out to each other.

The Cavy Spirit website recommends 3 weeks. Maybe you could do intro's on Thursday before you leave on Friday? I believe that would be just over 2 1/2 weeks and he should not be able to produce sperm anymore.

I've read 3 weeks in some places and 4 in others. Personally, I would wait at least the full 3 weeks. Which is more to deal with, 2 cages of cavies for a while, or pregnancy if your boar had any live sperm left when you put him in with the ladies?
