Hi everyone! It has been quite a while since I've been on here, what started as technical difficulties turned into life being extremely busy. But ... I now have a question / problem that I'm coming to the experts to help me with.
Just a refresher, we've got 2 sows (Hammie and Callie) who are currently residing in a 2x4 open cage with a 1x2 add on kitchen and a 2x2 loft. We have the whole thing up on a 1 grid high stand.
Well ... this past Tuesday our family grew ... by one about 5 month old boxer-mix puppy, Blossom. It only took until Thursday night for her to realize that there were "things" moving in that cage over there. Now she is super observant. For the time being she just seems to watch them, but ... on one of our long walks through the park *someone* (we won't mention any names, but they were on a leash) pounced on a not so small pigeon and managed to not only catch it, but chomp down and kill it before I could get "leave it" out of my mouth. She did in fact drop it immediately, but .... I'm concerned that the planning to eventually allow her run of the house when we leave. I need to create a lid.
From what I remember reading here (again, it's been a while so if there is a new thing that's been discovered, do tell) closet shelving works well as a lid. Question is, will it be enough to hold a potentially 70 pound dog intent on getting her prey? Any pro-cautions I should be prepared to take? How would I need to reinforce it?
