I couldn't really understand why myself but after thinking about it, I just assumed that maybe it was to stop any escape plans males have when they know there's a female next door?! In my own personal experience since separating them into two houses, I HAD to put a little distance between them (around 40cm) as Ruby was planning to chew his way out lol.

Yeah, I have had some escape attempts from my guinea pigs, they have squeezed through holes and jumped/flown over the fence dividing them. I can't wait until my male is neutered so they don't need the divider anymore!!
I will be praying for your little piggy to deliver easily and safely -and for healthy little pups!!
Don't forget to post pics when they get here!!!!
