I couldn't really understand why myself but after thinking about it, I just assumed that maybe it was to stop any escape plans males have when they know there's a female next door?! In my own personal experience since separating them into two houses, I HAD to put a little distance between them (around 40cm) as Ruby was planning to chew his way out lol.

Fingers crossed, please don't forget to include her in your prayers that everything goes well and hopefully there will be some little ones to introduce you all too ASAP :D

Yeah, I have had some escape attempts from my guinea pigs, they have squeezed through holes and jumped/flown over the fence dividing them. I can't wait until my male is neutered so they don't need the divider anymore!!

I will be praying for your little piggy to deliver easily and safely -and for healthy little pups!! :D

Don't forget to post pics when they get here!!!!

Not all good news.

Chilly had 2 pups while I was sleeping last night, I found them this morning but it was a bitter sweet find. One pup was dead, completely clean so she cleaned it up etc I can't understand why but I have to stop questioning because I'll never know.

The other pup is ok, a little unsteady on its feet and very very cute but Chilly won't let it suckle from her, Chilly keeps checking and cleaning her still although she is prestenely clean but when baby tries to find a teet Chilly just won't let her. Baby seems to be alone a lot at the moment, is this ok?

I have a feeling Chilly may have accidentally sat on the other pup telling by the position I found them in so I have removed the cozies as I did notice the living pup was starting to seem like it was being sat on too and obviously as I found 1 dead I don't want risk the other too.

If pup doesn't suckle what will happen? I have put in tiny pellets and veg cut up real small as usual.

I forgot to mention, I found 2 afterbirth, one with a cord attached and a lot of blood which I am almost certain came for the pup that passed away but I don't want go into detail as I am feeling really traumatised by the way I found the pup that passed and I'm heartbroken.

chilly is allowing pup to snuggle with her (although sometimes purs at the pup) and otherwise acting like a mother but I just can't see any suckling?

Will post a pic ASAP

Good news! :d

:D

Introducing baby Chilly (haven't got a name yet!)

Photo 17 Photo 18 Photo 19 Photo 20

I have had to pick pup up twice with VERY clean hands, Chilly is fine with me touching the baby and baby likes its face stoked just like Chilly! VERY ADORABLE! I am so very heartbroken over the other pup and I cried alot but my husband and my father was here when we woke up and they said to me theres nothing I can do and I need to focus on the living pup and mother now. Chilly is being a VERY good mother now, allowing baby to feed and guarding pup as well as cleaning pup still. Chilly eats and then runs back to pup. Should I offer pup some lettuce? or wait til baby chooses to try solids?

Is it too early to tell the gender? I would love to name the baby as I am keeping it. Also does any one have name suggestions? I'll be asking you all as well as my family for names :D

Sorry to hear about the pup you lost! :(

The baby looks just like Chilli! I think you should name it "Mini" / "Minnie" if it's a girl or "Junior" if it's a boy.

You should be able to sex it immediately but it could be hard to tell unless a little penis pops out.

Congrats!

Thank you! Well I had a look and I'm pretty sure it's a boy but I wasn't sure if it was safe to so the slight pressure test so I didn't try that? Can I?

Yes he is so much like Chilly! The other pup was mostly brown with a half black face. I am still feeling really traumatised and upset over the other pup but I got to hold the new little one and that cheered me up a lot! He is so adorable! I love him so much and very addictive to watch!

He wants to snuggle a lot but I keep checking because I'm scared after finding the other pup had passed.

They are good name choices! Will think of some more and ask my husband what he this too, if someone could let me know if the pressure gender test is ok to do i'll go ahead and see if he is a boy indeed! :D

Taco?
Chico! I like Chico!
Pikachu is nice too!
O so many choices!!!
I haven't a clue!

But the baby is so timid and sweet, he curled up in my hand and looked straight into my eyes!

I'll take some more pictures later and start a new thread hopefully too sometime later!

Thank you all for your prayers :)

I checked again but not a confirmed boy! Could be a girl! I'll have to wait! I tried to softly do the parting thing to see if there's a vulva but the only thing that parted was it's butt so no progress! lol

I'm so sorry you lost one pup, but the survivor is adorable. Definitely a little mini-me to mom. Hopefully it's a girl so you can potentially find a vet to neuter Ruby and keep the family together. I'm amazed at how they do indeed look like little adults.

What a little cutie!!! I'm so upset with my self I didn't check and see he was born earlier. I'm sorry what happened to the other baby.
About names, I absolutely LOVE the name pikachu, and I'm not even that big of a pokemon fan, it's just a cute name. :p If you wanted it to go with the momma's name, you could name him/her Sunny, or Winter.
With how big Chilly got, I was sure she was going to have five babies, not two. Congrats! Don't forget to take lots of pigtures. Oh, and I HIGHLY doubt the baby died from being sat on, my momma used to sit on all three of her babies all the time to keep them warm. He/she might have been born with complications and died shortly after being born. Again, I'm very sorry that he/she passed. :(

You could always name the pup 'Clone' because it looks so much like Mama.

Here are some other names, kind of sticking with the gemstone theme like Ruby:

Garnet
Amber
Opal
Topaz
Obsidian
Onyx (I really love that one, but a boy name IMO)
Aquamarine
Jade
Zircon

And some names to go with Chilly:

Frigid
Nippy
Shiver (that one is cute too, and unisex)

The pup is adorable. I am so sorry about your loss of the other one, but I am sure that you and Chilly will put your hearts into raising a healthy pup. In a way, it was a blessing, because sometimes I wonder how I could love so many more guinea pigs as much as I love my pair. Chilly's little pup is going to be a sweet, loving cavy because of your wonderful care for him/her. Keep up the good work, and show us some more pigtures!

Sorry about the loss of the baby. It's doubtful that the mom sat on it while it was alive. Most likely it was born dead. Some animals do try to eat babies born dead.

I'm glad her mothering instinct kicked in, and the remaining baby is fine.

Don't worry about sexing the baby yet. On some babies the gender is hard to determine right away.

Congrats on your new furbaby and sorry about the other not making it. I would be thankful I didn't have to see the other one pass away, that would have been really awful. You have gotten great suggestions for names but I'm sure you will come up with the one that suits the lil one best after you spend more time with it.

Hi all and thanks so much for your message! He is sprinting around now and very VERYY cute! I keep him up continuously, I also make sure Chilly and Ruby get the same attention because I don't want them to feel left out!

He runs along side his mother and watches what she does then copies her, he eats hey, like to nibble on a sweet red pepper and has already learned to wreck the bedding! He is only like 4 days old and way too clever! He even wheeks in sink with the others when it's food time!

It really did traumatise me when the other pup had passed but the pup was perfectly clean, no injuries nothing, but I did notice it seemed to be quite large, it could have just been my imagination because my family said they didn't think so. I don't know, that pup is up in heaven now but will always be in my thoughts...

I still haven't named this pup! Some gorgeous name suggestions! Thank you all! I tried out a couple but they didn't feel right! I am half Irish so I even tried out Paddy but it doesn't sit well when I call the pup. I think he is a boy but can't confirm yet, it sure is looking like it as he seems to have an 'i' rather than a Y, will post some pics ASAP

I just can't get over over much of a special little baby this pup is, I am completely in love!

I am so sorry for the loss of you piggie. That's horrible. But I have to tell you that I read through every single page of posts and you completely warmed my heart. I just adopted a female piggie this morning and her previous owners were pretty sure that's she's pregnant. They told me she should be due in about a week. She is definitely pear shaped, but I can't feel any babies. I also have two other girls, and one of them is very pear shaped too, but she's just a chubby piggie. She is 3 and has never ever been around a boy, so I'm just not sure about the new girl. Thank you so much for asking all the questions that you asked. If my new girl is pregnant, I now know the answers to so many questions that I didn't think to ask. I hope they new baby is doing fine and I'm wish you and your little family the best of luck and happy healthy life together. Take care of yourselves and them too! :)

Hi! Thank you so much for posting, I'm so happy that my journey could help you as well as all the very very helpful messages all these kind members wrote to me!

I went with the 3 week rule and moved Sunny over with Ruby my other boy, Chilly (Sunny's mother) went in to depression so I got another female to be her companion, they are 2 boys 2 girls living the lap of luxury! If you have any more questions thoughts or need some advice, please write to me and I am more than happy to help!

A very strange but wonderful thing happened with my piggies! Sunny was born nearly identical to his mother with a white stripe on his face and now the new baby cookie has a white stripe to and is the same color and Ruby with red eyes too! So the boys colors match the girls and it's so weird because I did not choose them like that, Ruby was the only one available when I got him, and Cookie was the only female pup!

God and the Angels definitely had a hand in this I'm sure!

Big hugs to everyone xxx
