Need abit of help with the cubes I ordered

Hello all i'm new here my names Claire, I have 4 piggys, Currently In cages I hate to say the least, When I had my boy pigs Vanilla and Fudge, I got them a combo guinea pig cage which is for 2 pigs. or they think is enough room, I had never heard of Cavy cages idea at the time, And the cage I got was the biggest there.

I did alot of research when I brought the piggys home, and stummled on a site called cavy cages, my jaw dropped and I thought it was a great idea!

I searched and serahced all the places in the Uk , I live in south wales, not alot of shops in my town centre, and I didn't find them, my friend recently spotted them on Ebay for £5 with £6 postage. I ordered them!! I recieved them today. theres 24 cubes in total, I have to build 2 seperate cagesm on for my 2 boys, and one for my 2 girls.
I immdently thought two, 4 x 2 cages, but, theres not enough cubes as I need to make mine cat proof, and make a lid all over.

I thought of making two 3 x 2's theres still not enough, even if I connect and use the length wise cubes attached.

I came up with another idea. Of using the girls current cage, and using the door as a rap into a 2 x 2 cage, so they'd have double room there, and make the boys a 3 x 2. but theres still not enough cubes unless I share the sides again, which is hard as I don't have much space around. really I wanted to keep the boys in my room as downstairs where there cages are now, the size of a 2 x 2 and a 3 x 2 just wouldn't fit length wise under the stairs. So they couldn't be joined.

I don't know what to do i#m really out of options the boys cage I couldn't join on as it's the lid is acutally the roof so I couldn't make a ramp for them.... is there any upper level idea I could use and section them off down the middle?

I've ordered 2 sheets of 8 x 4 correx, so I have plenty of it if needs be.

Here, I think what your problem is is you are trying to make a lid out of cubes. Try making one out of wire shelving if you can at all!

That is a really good idea thanks for that tip.

But i'd struggle getting these wire lids (lack of money right now looking for job and saving up for christmas!! epp)

So I was hoping the cubes would be all I needed Do you think theres anything I can do using the cubes as lids.

Hhehe that's not there bedding, I was just building and playing with the cubes in my living room, and I brought the piggys out for floor time, of course they wanted to investigate the cage!

I can't put them in a 2 x 3 even If I joined them up i'd need 29 cubes, I only have 24, thanks though sweety.

Ebay is great for cubes. And actually, the shelving is very inexpensive. It was about $10 for a 6-foot section. I got the more expensive kind as well!

If they are housed currently in cages smaller than a 2x2? That would work making 2, correct? You can make one 2x4, separated, for now, and then later you can make a second, removing the divider of the original cage and making it one larger cage. Just a thought.

I messured the boys current cage this morning, and it's almost a 3 x 2, putting them in a 2 x 2, would be worse off.

Maybe I sohuld just make one 4 x 2, with the boys in, and think about another, antother time?

Looks good to me, that is exactly what I was going to suggest. If you are still short on cubes you can always make a frame out of wood. And then put screening over it. For a cover.

I started out with 1 box and it was tough. I only had 4 piggies. 2 girls and 2 boys. Then a week later we went and got another box and it helped for the 4. Then we found out that one of our piggies that we rescued from the petstore was pregnant. We wanted to keept he babies too. We went out and bought 2 more boxes. we made a 3x4 cage for the girls and a 2x4 cage for the boys. We will be buying 2 more to make the girls a 4x4 of if we can a 5x4 or 3x4 for the boys. one way or another. I got 10 girls and 3 boys in one and the other who is a loner in a 2x2 cage.

I've had an idea now, Building 2, 4 x 2 cages! one for my room and one downstairs but no roof, so could I use correx for thw roof, I think it will be easier to lift off and play with pigs, plus Ollie has never ever jumped on top of the piggy cages he just watches, do you think it wud hold up on a 4 x 2 cage? thanks!
I just want them both to have enough room you see.

I had another idea too, how about if I made correx roofs like the bottom base, like folded into boxes for the top, would that work and be cat proof?

Yes.... i've decided to make one 4 x 2 for the boys, and later make the girls one too. I want to do it properly. i've been tryingto streatch the 24 cubes out, but I just simply need to get some more when I have more money.

Yes, the cage would be too dark and not ventilated enough. Can you use something else just for now? Or you could borrow money and pay it back asap!

Sorry to sound rude, but how are you paying for all of their expenses (food, water, bedding, hay, veggies etc.) when you can;t buy a package of grids? I don't know if you've thought of this, but what will happen if you need to take them to the vet's? Just a thought, and I hope you are doing well with your cavies! =)

Not rude at all. But i've been living of income support, as I had a heart attack last year, well this money has stopped and I need to claim another funding, I always have enough for food etc for them, just the pack of grids will set me back abit when all i'm getting is £35 a week.

Soon as i'm fit for work again, then I wont need to worry, and I wont need to be so carefull, but atm it's very hard.

My hubby and I are watching what we spend and make sure there is some money on hand for all of our pets. We always have food, veggies and ect for our pets no matter what. I get veggies at work for free so there is on problem solved. I will be excending the cages tomorrow. We had to take the cages apart because we changed rooms for the piggies and our bedroom. Our bedroom is much bigger than the computer room that the piggies are in. We sacraficed our bedroom for the piggies and took the smaller room. The girls will have a 5x6 cage and the boys will have a 3x4 cage. I will build them a 2nd level later on in a month or so. More room is better than a second level. But its nice to have a second level so they have excercise and more space than the bottom floor.
