I am planning on getting an outdoor animal. What i'm looking for in it is that it isn't necessary to get a friend for it (A pair) and that it can live outside, and that it is social. I also don't want to be spending a ton on food. Im into poultry but I don't really think a chicken would be that social. Any ideas?

I had a couple of geese growing up. All birds like to have a flock but if you are going to get it very young and spend a lot of time with it they do imprint on humans. They are great. Ther're social, graceful and as proctective as a watchdog.

Cool, I would of never of guessed that geese would be protective, but I find it very cool.

I want a goose! They are great.. their more protective than a dog especially those big white ones!

Oh yeah...My neighbors have 2 chickens. One is VERY social and person oriented. It follows people around all over the yard, let's you pick it up, etc... I guess it just depends on the chicken.

I want a chickin and a goose now. lol

I think we have 28 chickens...

The other day one of our geese hatched. The other died in it's egg though.

Would a chinny or a rabbit do ok outside if kept in proper temps.?

I believe a rabiit will be ok, but I am not sure about a chinchilla.

NO chins or rabbits outside. Rabbits and chins will become anti-social when kept outside. They get sick quicker and don't have as much space. Chins and rabbits definetilly need bonded pairs. Both sexes of rabbits have to be neutered/spayed always anyway.

It sounds like you are thinking of the 'perfect, low-mantinance pet'. You won't find that with many animals.

I think you should get a pet rock!! No maitnance, doesn't need company, food or shelter!!!OOh or a plastic flamingo!!

Personally I think that pets are kept indoors and livestock outside.

Good news! I did buy a garden at walmart (and it is very sexy if i do say so myself :p)
But the other good news is, I'm allowed to get another piggie! Since I'm living with my parents, they wouldn't let me get another (for some odd reason)
I am adopting him tommorow and he is going straight into quarintine.

Geese famously warned the ancient Romans that the Gauls were invading Rome (in something like 330 BCE). The geese were sacred geese at the temple of Juno, and were highly praised, while dogs dropped considerably in the Romans' esteem for not warning them.
