I have an adult male guinea pig, Pigglesworth, that I rescued back in January. When I got him, he a dark reddish brown discharge coming from only his left nostril. He had no other symptoms though. Eventually, he bagan having a lighter colored discharge from both nostrils, that was sort of greenish brown. Not too much later, his cage mate DiGiorno, that I had rescued at the same time, developed the same thing. I put them both on oral Tribrissen for 10 days. Yesterday was the last day of their medication. Now, DiGiorno's discharge is completely cleared up, but I looked at Pigglesworth this morning, and he has that same dark discharge from the left nostril. Could this be something besides a URI??

The URI may have been resistant to the Bactrim (Tribrissen). Please take both pigs to the vet ASAP. They will need a different antibiotic, most likely Doxycycline or Baytril.

Good luck.
