I really feel terrible about not having a name for my cavy. Is "Cavy" a bad name? Ha! I really don't know. I have my first Vet. visit and I felt terrible when the receptionist asked for a name of the guinea pig! i said "guinea pig"?

Any seggustions would be great!

I've come up with these names from (broken link removed) : Rolo, Cavy, Karma, and thats all.

Please, Please, Please help me!

Try a theme name mine are going to be merry and pippen from lord of the rings my sis's are wilber and charlotte from charlotte's web

Oops, Sorry!!! I forgot to check my grammer, I know it is really bad.

Hmmm, well... I forgot if your pig is male or female. But here are my ideas.

I kinda thought your pig looked like a wookie, so maybe Wookie or Chewy.
Dharma, Phoebe, Lilian, Scarfy, Fudgy, Nickels (I dunno! lol ) Checker, Shelly, Toast(y), Mickey, Farris.

Zeander, thank you! Great names!

I think I will go with either Wookie or Chewy! Thank you!

Also, a side note, how often should I clean my Cavy's cage? She seems to "go" every where in the cage!

Hey cool, thanks Melodypig.

As far as the potty thing: You can try to train her to pee in a litter pan, but they will still poo all over. I have two sows in a 2x3 with a loft in which I use kiln dried pine with newspaper underneath. I do a total clean about every 1.5 weeks. I think i'm going to start spot cleaning daily by scooping out some of the poos and adding in some shavings as needed. You can use a mixture of water and vinegar to clean the cage.

Your cage isn't very big Melody, I would clean it every couple of days.

My pigs have something of a 'theme' - all their names have either a flower or a herb in them:

Charlie-Parsley
Tuppence-Poppy
Lottie - Primrose
Jasmine-Peaches

I think Wookie is a great name for a pig! And I agree with Ly; smaller cages should be clean more often than bigger ones. I used to clean my tiny pet store cage out every day, otherwise it really got smelly. But when I changed to C&C 5 months ago, I found myself giving it a total clean maybe once a week, if that.

my two babies are named Tarzan and Jane to go along with the theme names.

If I had three boys I would name them Curly, Moe, and Larry lol to go with a theme of the three stooges, but mom says we can't get three boys. I don't know why she will just never answer me!

Aww, I like all the name sugestions! Mine are called Ascot & Furlong, both horse related names because they were found on a horse race course (Ascot)

It depends on which bedding you use, i.e. vetbed will last much longer than towels.

Ok. So i'm absolutely doing the name theme thing. And I really loved the Chewy idea. So I think I will go with a Star Wars theme! And for my first Cavy I will go with Leia. Which leaves me with Padame, Luke, Chewy, Darth, Jar Jar, and countless more! https://www.starwars.com/databank/character/, really I wouldn't have thought there were so many names!

Don't you just hate that! When I lived at home with my parents I hardly got away with having pets. I had a rat (R.I.P. age 4) named Mario, a dwarf hamster (R.I.P age 7) named Maxwell, two really big gold fish named Moby Dick and Moh (both R.I.P age unknown Moh killed Moby and Moh died of what I believe to be lonleiness) but they would never let me have a cavy or a ferret. So now that I got married and moved out I now have a Jack Russell Terrier (or terror :p ) and a cavy!

Yeah it gets soooooo annoying I was going to talk to mymom about getting a rabbit, I had it all planned out where I would put the cage which one I wanted I even had the money to pay for it and buy the cage and supplies, but as soon as she walked in my room and I said I want a rabbit the only word that came out of her mouth was NO and then she just left like it never happened. It made me so mad

Yeah, parents can be annoying. But, you have to remember that it is the parents that have to cover all the vet bills, food supplies, care costs, and time if for some reason you are unable to take care of your pet. Their is a lot more to owning a pet then young people relize sometimes. I am sure that there are good reasons why your mom said no. I am sure she did not say it just to be mean. :0)

Try starting a casual convo with her about something unrelated to rabbits. Then slowly talk about your Cavies and how much you love them, talk about how much you love them and how well you take care of them. then start with the rabbit. If you have a job, tell her you will set aside a certain amount of money each month to cover vet bills, buy food, or any thing else that may come up for the little bunny. Tell her you already have the money for a cage and all the supplies. Make sure to not get over emotional and make sure to be very matter of fact. Make a deal with her about it.

Good luck;)

On the theme name front, I have an Arthurian thing going on.
Jasper Arthur - beagle/basset mix
Sir Lancelot - orange tabby
Lady Guenevere - black/white part persian
Sir Percival - GP

I plan on getting a fish soon and naming her Nimue (Lady of the Lake), and I keep a list of names for other members of the zoo that might come along.

Thats great! I can't wait to get more Star wars names in my house!
