Hi there,

I just wanted to know if anyone else had piggies that love biting nails??
And the weird thing is that he only loves my nails, not my boyfriends, and mine are also pretty short (for a girl). Also, we were eating burgers last night, and Bongo sneaked up and took a bite out of the meat!! I thought they were Vegan! He seemed to really enjoy it too! I was worried and checked his poopie later on, but all seemed normal. I'm not ever going to feed him meat again, but has anyone else have this happen to them?
Thanks!
Bongo the male meat eater!
BTW, I got him on Halloween, and he's adjusting to his new home just fine. He's a sweetheart! And he loves to lick me. I'll resize my pix soon and use a real pic of him as my avatar. THANKS EVERYONE!

My pig is also obsessed with my nail. Its funny because she will even chase them like a toy. When im with her in play time sometimes she will even chew through my socks to my toenails. (i bled a couple times when she missed)lol

My piggies don't necessarily chew my nails, as much as bite them since they think they're food or toys or something. But one of my piggies just loves licking my hands, especially after I handle cilantro!

oooooooooh really thats sooooooo cute

Mine have actually broken my nails while chewing on them, snapped them right off! It takes me forever to grow them out and they go and just break them! LOL

Bongo actually ate one of my nails the other day!
Hope that's ok and not too hard for them to digest.
So is it common for them to like eating burger meat? hah

Well, no its not common... Please don't let it happen again

My pigs sometimes think my nails are food so they will have the occasional bite!

No, I won't.. I never let it happen the first time, he snuck a piece! I was just wondering since I know they're Vegan, and I'm sure it's not too common. I would think they would hate the taste, but not this one!

How did they get ahold of the meat? I mean, surely they aren't on the table. =)

No he wasn't on the table, he was on the couch with us and I placed my burger (which was on a plate) on the arm of the couch. He climbed up and grabbed a piece..he was probably aiming for the lettuce or tomato, but found the meat. Well, like I said, it won't happen again. I just thought it was pretty amusing since they're not known to like meat.

It's more that it's not part of their natural diet (I can't see a wild guinea pig showing any interest whatever in a freshly killed wild animal) and therefore they're not designed to digest it.

What an animal will eat when taken out of its natural habitat is often unrelated to what they should eat, or what is good for them. That's why we have to be completely responsible for what they have access to, and what they're given. Many of the things they'll try are completely unsuitable for their digestive systems, poisonous or just unhealthy.

Unfortunately, lots of people seem to find it funny offering animals unsuitable foods, or think they're treating them, and many animals die as a result. Chocolate is a big one - it's poisonous to many animals.

Hard candies are also a problem. Many people forget that they're such a choking hazard, even when broken into small pieces. These small pieces can easily become lodged in the throat. Plus, there is nothing good about feeding them candies at all--it's an absolutely irresponsible risk to take. Thanks for the great response, Treen.
