We feed our guinea pigs hay from a hopper attached to the side of their cages. It is always such a mess, the hay hits the floor before we get it into the hopper, the hay hits the floor as they all eat. HELP! Is there a better way to feed hay? Do they make solid bricks? I know how to clean up after, what I want to know is, is there a better way to keep it clean before and during?

Thanks

Steven

lol, pigs will be pigs!

But seriously, that is totally normal. I throw hay all over thier cage, they love to play in it and eat it. Don't expect your gp's cage to be all clean and tidy!

It's not the cage I care about, it's the surrounding floor. By feeding using the cage mounted hopper the hay ends up all over the floor on the outside. Do they make solid bricks of hay that can be used to feed?

Just put it in mounds in the corner of the cage floor, or put it in a paper lunch-size bag for them to pull out and play in.

Put a piece of coroplast behind the hopper to try to contain the hay some. You can also just toss in handfuls of hay into the cage, they love to play in it too.

The cubed hay isn't really good for piggies, it's just got a bunch of junk added to it so it's sticky-ish. You can always use a tissue box or you can just put a piece of plastic (or cardboard) on the back, behind the hayrack. Good luck! =)
