We JUST built our piggy a new cage (we literaly just finished a few hours ago) and already Piggy is biting on the side walls. She has special wood pieces to chew on but she seems to prefer the plastic walls. Is there anything we can do to discourage her from ruining her new home?

Is it a c&c cage? Mine occasionally chew the grid's but they can't chew through it.

She might just be "tasting" the new cage and may eventually lose interest in chewing it. If not, I would look into buying some metal or plastic door edge to protect the edges. I know that Da-Mar's sells the stuff at a very low cost: (broken link removed)

Look at their Online Catalog, page 16.

Give her more hay.

It is a C&C cage but we weren't able to find coroplast so we used posterboard laminated with adhesive plastic. We're going to get coroplast soon, we just weren't able to find it the only weekend we had free to build the cage. But don't want her chewing on the coroplast either.
Oh and she always has plenty of hay.

You could try bitter apple spray, it tastes nasty to them and its safe to use on pretty much anything. You can find it at most pet supply stores, farm supply stores etc. You can spray it on cords, plants, anything you dont want them to chew. I have a problem with my girls chewing the coroplast as well, they did good the first couple of days then they started in on it ;) I just found it on the wal-mart website as well, I couldnt find it in the stores though. It's even safe to spray on the animal themselves.

[font=Verdana, Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Bitter Apple is a non-toxic, safe and effective chew deterrent. Has a bitter taste to discourage pets from licking, gnawing and chewing on surfaces where applied. Stops pets from biting and chewing fur, wounds and bandages. Bitter Apple comes in a 16 oz pump spray.

Give your piggy time to adjust. Its all new to her. She may settle down in a few days. Chewing is normal. They chew everything. When I first put down my vetbed (like carpeting) they were chewing on the fibers. Yuck, I decided not to react but to ignore it for a few days. Sure enough they got tired of that and now they hardly every chew on it. So wait a few days and see what happens.

They tend to chew when they want attention or are bored. Are you planning on adopting her a friend?

My pig chews on his cage, too. It's annoying, but hay, they have to chew on something.
