Last thursday, I went to the local petshop because I was out of shavings for the hammie cages. Don't worry I didn't buy anything but shavings. But while I was there the owner who knows I have pigs, told me of this couple who had bought a pig for their granddaughter but now the granddaughter doesn't want to take care of it and her grandpa was the one giving all the care. She asked if I would be interested in adopting the pig because the couple wanted to find a new home for it.

The pig is a boar, but I didn't see any reason not to adopt him. I thought that I could just save up money to have him neutered then house him with the girls or split the herd up into two groups. So, I decided to adopt him. I had the lady at the petstore call the people and give them my number. On Friday, the woman with the boar called and told me about him and said she was asking a $10 adoption fee and that he would come with his kiddie pool, water bottle and feeder/hidey house thing they made him. We arranged to meet Saturday and I brought JJ home. He is in a quarantine cage in the kitchen at the moment because I have pretty much only been home long enough since 4:30 Saturday to sleep, bring my son food and feed the piggies(have been working on a court case and spent all night last night away from home finishing up the documents for court, but I did get home for a bit last night to feed the pigs and then fed them again this morning when I got in).

Tonight or tomorrow JJ is being moved into my bedroom for the rest of his quarantine period. Then when his quarantine is over, I am building a temporary 2x2 next to the girls cage. But his cage will have a lid so he won't be tempted to climb out and into the girls cage. I am picking up grids when I go to Little Rock tomorrow to the doctor.

Anyway, he is as sweet he can be. He doesn't run when I go to pet him and loves to be petted and picked up. He just won't eat veggies yet because he has never had them. But I keep trying by offering him veggies twice a day. I can't wait till he can be neutered so he can have a girlfriend or two or four. He has a white body with a black face. His hair is real short (about 1/2" or less) and he appears to be part Aby but I can't figure out what else he is. I had pictures I took on Saturday but my son inadvertantly erased all the pics in memory on the digital so I have to take more then I will post pics of him.

I feel that I have given him a good loving home and in time will provide him with a harem which I know he will love.

Wow. Congratulations. Can't wait to see the pictures. I'm sure you've given him a good home!

Thats so awesome!!! I am more then sure your gonna give him a great home, I cant wait to see pictures!!!

Congrats, Ly! It always feels so good to hear that yet another pig in need has found a loving home! Boy, won't he be excited to find out that he's going to be surrounded by a herd of lovely sows in a matter of weeks :)

Thanks all! I feel that by having a boar as well, never having one before will give me the experience of studying the differences between the sexes and the experience of having a boar vs. a sow (not to mention the pleasure of cleaning the anal sac and grease gland).

He does have what appears to be a patch of fungus on his back. He will get a nizoral bath and precautionary treatments for mites.

Congratulations, Ly. That's exciting. Can't wait for the pics.

I'm so happy for you Ly. I'll be looking for pictures as well.

I wonder if people will ever learn that animals are not a gift... congrats to adopting the little guy!

Congrats! Do you have any pictures? :)

Awh.. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! I'm so happy for you! I'm sure you'll enjoy watching him with the girls. I have boys and girls (In seperate cages), to me the differences in personality in males and females is amazing. I just love to watch them and interact w/ them. It's so much fun!!

Best of luck with your new piggies and I cannot wait to see pictures!!

Congrats LY!
A more off-topic question, what kind of hamster do you have?

If all goes well I too will be adopting a boar for my four girls this weekend... I can't wait.

Too bad you don't live closer to me slap_maxwell. My Mottley is up for adoption and neutered.

I would be VERY tempted. I wish I lived closer. About how many hours are you away from me?

Your about 9 hours from me. Sorry.

Congratultions Ly! Please post pictures soon. I love a happy ending.

slap_maxwell-Wow 12 hours! I looked it up on a map site.

Congratulations Ly! He's found himself a great home!

Dagwell, I have 2 hammies. One is my son's, one is mine. So I have a female winter white named Puffnstuff, and my son has a female roborovski named Bambi.

I also forgot to mention more about JJ (sorry no pics yet, tomorrow I promise). I gave him a really good once over last night. His incisors are good, his ears are clean, his nails were trimmed, his nether regions were checked. He is in very good condition other than having one spot of fungus and possible mites. He will get his treatments tomorrow for both. I borrowed my friends digital scale to weigh him for his ivermectin.

That's so nice of you to take in JJ, Ly! That's awesome. He sounds like a cutie, he'll fit right in.
That's odd. Ly, Slap and I all have 4 girls, and all are waiting (or already have a male) either for a male to add to our girls, or already have a male and want to neuter him. I'm neutering Simon once he gets a clear health check from the vet.
