If he/she doesn't deliver in a week and 1/2 I would probably take her to the vet. That would be 3 1/2 weeks of noticeably large abdomen. This is highly unlikely for her to be noticeably pregnant for so long. It may be ovarian cysts.

Just because I am new to guinea pigs and have alot to learn, does the piggie gain that much weight from cysts? I know cysts are fluid filled so I am just curious if a piggie would gain weight just like they would when they are pregnant.

Wow....and you can HEAR the babies INSIDE the mom?

Have you been able to feel babies moving? I bet that would be a good tell tale if it is babies or cysts. Also, how old is she? My vet said she raised piggies in college and that if she gets pregnant for the first time to late that her pelvis will not seperate and they will need a c-section. Do you know how old she is?

I haven't heard the babies chattering (but have seen kicking), but I'm not even sure how I would do that or what to listen for?? Will you be able to hear them from a couple feet away or do you need to be right next to the belly? Tonight when she was laying in her bed I tried to listen, but my head was at least 2 feet away from her.

Christie- she is young, just turned 4 months.

I got her weight today- 1003 grams. Up from 990g on 12/30.

Depending on how cooperative she is tonight, I might try to see if I can feel if her pubic bones are parted. That should be interesting since I'm no cavy savvy vet!

I had read that the quickening starts around 7 weeks, so if that is the case then we might be close to 8 weeks now. So hard to tell!!!

We had a piggie 5 years ago that came to us at 6 weeks old and pregnant already. We had no idea she was pregnant until one day I went to clean out the cage and saw a baby running around in there with the other two piggies. I did a quick check to make sure the girls I had were in fact both girls (they were,) and a check to see what the baby was. The baby turned out to be a little girl too. It was quite a shock and the reason I found this site. Good luck with your girl. Keep us posted if she does have some babies, I'm sure everyone would love to see pictures.

Sorry guys, no babies yet. I'm starting to think it's never going to happen! Yet the kicking is there...so I suppose when she is ready they'll pop out! I will make sure to start a new thread as soon as they arrive!

Today we went and bought a bunk bed for the spare bedroom where we keep the piggies.

Here's the one we got:MYDAL Bunk bed frame - IKEA

This will allow us to put a large cage on the lower level where the 2nd mattress would be, and save us a ton of space in that room. When the new cage is done I'll post pictures of that, as well.

Just read all this thread. I hoped to read the babies had arrived... Alas,, nothing. LOL... This is one I will be reading for updates...

We got our female at PetSmart in Anchorage Alaska... One day my 9 year old daughter (who loves them sooo much) grabbed my arm yelling somethings wrong with tinkerbell! Tugging me into the living room. I got up (she had gained ALOT of weight and thought that maybe she had a stroke or something) ran to the living room and saw tinker just sitting there looking back at me... around her were wet bloody balls right under her neck... (Oh my gosh she blew up! is what I thought) I opened the cage,,,,, carefully petted Tinker who was ok temperment wise,, then decided to poke one of the wet slimy balls of whatever... IT MOVED!!!!! Now we have only had dogs and cats and we have had a litter of puppies... this was a first for me.... My daughter is crying thinking that her piggy was going to die,,, After I mentally figured out what had happened,,, I turned around and told her,,, your a grandmother. She sniffed,,,, what? there are 4 new piggies to the family....

We found homes for them all with my friends and family. We go visit them all the time... That was a day my daughter will never forget. LOL.

Im sooo excited,, I can't wait for the babies now.

You and me both!!!

I was watching her lounge around tonight. She would wander to the hay, then plop down to lay in it and eat. Then wander over to me to say hi, and plop down. Lots of plopping- more than usual! I saw the babies kicking around a lot, too, more than I've seen before. Hopefully this means they want to get out of their mom's tummy soon. The suspense is KILLING ME! I have tomorrow off work so if she could time it for then, that would be PERFECT. Something tells me she isn't taking orders on it, though. LOL.

As of yesterday she has the full 2x4 all to herself (it was previously split as I had no other option to separate her from the male). Earlier today (before all the lazy "plopping") she was doing a lot of scampering around. I don't think I'll be taking her out for "free time" anymore at this point, but at least she has the whole 2x4 for exercise.

Sammiec4 you just made me laugh so hard! My first pig was from Petco and I didn't know she was pregnant either till I heard a loud squeek and then I jumped to her cage and saw a dark object under her white tummy. I freaked out and said omg there is a mouse in her cage! My bf who was gaming on his computer looked at me and said what?? No there isn't? He looked in there and was like oh geez! I looked at him wide eyed and he said nooo not a mouse, a baby. I said What?! And then I looked and the other one was born. She had two healthy babies :) I'll never forget that Sunday morning.

Still no babies. Here are a few pictures of Pugsley's new temporary home while we continue working on the new cage. Eventually this top bunk will have a coroplast tray and be separated for a boys area and girls area. I got the coroplast today, and I found a place that sold me an entire 8'x4' sheet of white for $8.23!!!
