Oh goodness! They are really cute! Definitely look like teddies to me. I believe, but not certain, that the term "teddy bear" refers to hamsters and it's just "teddy" for guinea pigs. They are really something. Love their little faces.

They are so adorable!!!

Not to be rude but, you really shouldn't feed your guineas lettuce. It is entirely water and has no nutritional value to it. Also it can contribute to diareha, which is something your piggie and you would certainly not enjoy!

Edited by bpatters: LittlePiggie, your advice about lettuce is incorrect. Lettuce is not entirely water, and contains important vitamins and minerals needed by pigs. The only lettuce to totally avoid is iceberg, which does have very little nutritional value, and romaine if a pig has powdery and sludgy urine. Otherwise, red and green leaf lettuces should be a staple of a guinea pig's diet.

Anyways, I think your piggie might be pregnant. I have a preggers piggie right now and although mine is a little bigger, I see a resemblence. Usually if you have a gut feeling it's right. Since you are preety sure she/he is pregnant I would say yes because she/he certainly looks it.

You're partially right. Most lettuce is good for pigs. Green leaf and occasionally romaine are good for them. It's specifically iceberg lettuce that you should avoid. That's the one that's mostly water that has no nutritional value

Omg Pugsly's face!!! Oh what a face! I love them both! You got some cute pigs! I love this pigture of them eating! I had a pregnant sow and didn't know (being my first pig) and I just thought she was getting fat. Out popped two healthy babies when I heard a loud squeak when she began birth. All I can say is good luck. I agree, she looks somewhat pear shaped from the top but just kinda chunky from the side. Well good luck. If you can't figure it out you could always consider bringing her to the vet if possible. An idea for getting her out of her cage in a less stressful way is to use a small topless box and cut a hole in each side. Let her go in and cover both hole and carefully take the box out of the cage.

Thank you again to everyone for your replies and advice. At this point I'm going with my gut and assuming she is pregnant. I will try to do an update when she has the babies :)

Forgot to add- I started weighing her today. She is at 870 grams right now. Not sure if that is normal for a 3 1/2 month old pig, but BOY does she look chubby!!!!

Mine is around the same age. She is 394grams, but she is tiny. She eats a lot though and has the rounded belly like yours. Not pregnant though. I thought she was a few weeks back I was so scared.

Ok I now have 3 days of weighing to share. I did this at about the same time each day, and did it before the daily veggie platter.

12/18 - 870g

12/19 - 876g

12/20 - 900g

I feel like 30 grams in 48 hours is a pretty big gain. Anyone with experience care to comment on pregnancy weight gains vs. regular growing piggie gains? (Pig is 3 1/2 months old.)

That is a fairly significant weight gain. Keep on monitoring and if similar gains keep on happening then that would be further evidence that she might be pregnant. But, I must say, that is really big for 3.5 months, so it wouldn't surprise me if she is pregnant.

I thought it was quite heavy, as well! She is already almost 150 grams heavier than the "for sure" male that is from the exact same litter.

They are soooo cute. I had a similar situation a few years back....I got 2 new piggies and about 5 week later I had 5 more little piggies. One of my girls was already pregnant when I got her! I would never breed intentionally; however, they sure were fun and precious little babies. I was able to find them homes and all was well after that. The biggest problem was my foster daughter wanted to keep them all!!

I have 2 pregnant guinea pig's (I pressume)!!!
1. It is pretty likely that the previous owner got it wrong, I have to say that your piggies belly is pretty big.
2. I think it would stress her out a bit too much with a belly that big I think you should just prepare for babies anyway, JUST IN-CASE!!
3.I see the belly and it is pretty large!!! I think you are right about the pregnancy!!! I found this video about baby-proofing.You should probably start now since a piggies gestion period is 53-73 days. It is pretty imformative. --Baby Proofing Cages! - YouTube
4. Yea, just when you are having laptime, to make it easier, you should weigh her then to make her a bit calmer. With a scale for vegatables.
Well, I think you may want to seperate them if you do not want a back to back litter in the next few weeks!!!
Oooh I was wondering how you make a thread....... I am stupid...... And add pictures. Sorry
Good luck with the piggies!!!!

My piggy or the OP's piggie? Well her weight is 465 now. I know she is not over eating because I measure her food out and she is not pregnant because her belly has not changed. She is just growing.

To be fair when I got her, she was skinny because she was not allowed food by the other piggies. They chewed her ears up and apparently her fur too because it was short when I got her, but now its pretty long. It took her a while to realize she wasn't going to get jumped for eating. Had to feed her slurry for a while because she was terrified to eat from a bowl. :(

OP, I hope you have been able to figure out what's going on with your piggy. I hope she is not pregnant. I know how scary that can be after reading up on it. Fingers crossed for you and your piggy. :)

I think that might have been directed at the OP.

I too got a piggie ones, Mr. Dad that had to compete for his food w/ like 14 other piggies... I swear this lady was a hoarder, and he put on like 4 oz in a few days here. I need to weigh them all today... now that the madness is over... YEAH.

Gotcha, I couldn't tell, so I thought I would answer because I didn't want you to think I was ignoring you. Poor piggies.

Why do people do that? Our new piggies were kept in a tiny cage in the lady's basement. They smelled AWFUL when we got them. We had to roll the windows down so we could breathe because the smell of old urine was so strong. I had to give them a bath right away. When I put them in the 2x5 cage they ran around like crazy and as soon as I placed the food in the cage they started scarfing food down and begging for more. It made me so angry that they were treated that way. We tend to spoil our pets so they get tons of veggies and fresh hay all day long and I don't wait for the water bottles to empty, they just get fresh water daily. When I gave them toys they started trying to toss them around and popcorned all over. Does my heart good to see my girls happy. :)
