How long have you had him? If he is new he might just be jumpy around you. When I first got my guinea pig he never wanted me to hold him, and squirmed when I did. Now he loves to be held and will sit in my lap for hours. Although if he is jumping off your lap he could seriously be hurting his back. They have very fragile backs. Anyway keep working on him.

If you think you injured his back with the leash you should probably get a check up at a vet.

Have you treated him for mites? They don't like to be touched if they have mites.

I also wouldn't walk your guinea pig on a leash anymore (especially if it's what you think hurt your pigs back). It's better just to set up a place to play for floortime. I hope your visit with the vet goes well!

Good with guinea pigs and any issues its never good to "wait it out". They can starve to death in as little as 12 hours. Its called gut statis. Which is why if they skip a meal NOT to just look at it as he is not hungry. Guinea pigs are ALWAYS hungry. They arn't hard wired like us and dont often get better without our intervention. Are you sure his movements arn't popcorning (happiness)?
