Sage is at least 2 months red and brown at the same time, and has a cute white crest on his forehead. The cage turned out to be quite small but I have sage out most of the time anyways and at the moment all sage does in there is sleep. But unfortunently the cage floor is wire. I've taken a bunch of news paper and put it over the wire then put litter over the paper and it seems to have worked. Right now he's talking to me. My parents said that the lady said that if we neuter sage he'll live longer is that true. Sage loves to climb into my hair and cuddle. I have some fleece that i'll wrap around him like a baby blanket and he likes that. Oh and the funniest thing happened yesterday sage talked to me for the first time and i felt this odd warm feeling on my leg. Turned out Sage pee'd on me lol.

Your piggie sounds very cute.

Its great that you got a GP! But not to be rude you have to get a bigger cage, if he is always sleeping that is no good! It shows how bored he is, he is 2 months old he should be a spunky guy. AND Wiring for a bottom! That is horrible at least put cardboard down, newspaper is very flimsy (spelling?) and he could step through it and hurt his feet, even break a leg!

Sorry to rain on your parade but

1. Your guinea pig needs a C&C cage, or one that matches the space requirements.
2. You MUST get rid of that wire flooring.
3. I advise you to get a friend for your piggie once your cage is big enough.

Are you able to afford the vets now? After letting your hamster die, since you did not take him to the vets; what are you going to now if your guinea pig gets ill?

It's pretty sad you continued to get a pig after all the advice given to you. Good luck to the poor one.

I know I plan to make a bigger cage and Sage is doing very well for a loner. Yes we are able to afford the vet now or at least next week when we get monthly payments. It doesn't look like the floor wire is removable and the news paper actually surprised me at how durable it was i made sure i did it in clumps of news paper to make it more durable. And like i said I have Sage out most of the time right now he's not all that active because its a new house for him. But he is getting used to me fairly fast. I have a huge living room for him to run in. And even my moms become fond of Sage so i'm sure when i'm with my counsler my mom will let Sage cuddle with her. I made a new cozy cause the first one i can't find its made of fleece for extra comfort. :) Oh and I now know what everyone meant by guinea pigs pooping alot I swear Sage poops every 5 minutes lol. But i'm used it after having Chibs she always pooped while sleeping. Do guinea pigs need alot of water cause for some reason Sage isn't drinking any. Its humid at the moment dunno if that would effect it or maybe its the sudden change. Oh i've found a website that helps me figure out what to feed Sage. What age are they full grown?. Oh and Sage says hi while yawning lol. Oh yeah and my cat actually gets along with Sage. I don't think she even cares we have a new member of the family. And getting a friend for sage might not be needed. I'm hope 24/7 pretty much i have no life to really live, And i'm bord of computer tv and nintendo so i spend the entire time with Sage.

sorry won't let me edit [Home*] -.- i hate typos

You don't get it no matter how much time you spend with the little guy he will always be bored. It's in their nature to live in herds. When I got my newest guinea pig Roxy even though she was new she ran around. It's because of the cage Like I said before that he is not running. He has no place to run in the cage. It's good you can play with him but that never adds up to a guinea pig friend.

Oh and also yes guinea pigs drink alot of water.

-Do guinea pigs drink a lot of water?-

Not necessarily. It all depends on how many veggies you are feeding him- he might be getting all the water he really wants/needs from the veggies. You are feeding him veggies and fruits, right?

-You need to get a bigger cage-

It's true. Sorry. >_< A bigger cage DOES mean a happy piggy, and when you are sleeping or doing something not involving him, he'll have something to run around in while you're not that. It's great you keep him out that long, my pigs would love that, but it's nearly impossible for me to keep them out like you keep Sage out all the time with you :) I think that's great.

What kind of pellets are you feeding him? What kind of vegtables and fruits are you feeding him?

I'd advise, if you CAN NOT get a c&c cage, try to get a bigger cage with no wired bottom- even if it is a pet store bought cage. It's highly recommended you get one though.

What kind of bedding are you using? Do you have hay?

He sounds adorable ^^ I love red guineas.

Neutering a guinea pig has no effect on how long they'll live. It may help minimize the chance of him getting impacted later on when he's old though.

May I assume that the little guy is in his cage overnight? If so, that is roughly 8 or 9 hours and since they don't sleep that much so he is active during that time. So, although he may be out during the day he is still stuck in a small cage overnight.

Mine don't drink a lot of water - if you are worried then drench your vegetables in water and then feed them. That will get some water in to him

Take a look at the food chart on guinealynx.com It is very useful

Let me add, no matter how MUCH interaction you give him, it's not the same is it? Pigs love chasing each other, talking, rumblestrutting and sleeping next to each other.

Also, newspaper can actually be strong. I made a small carry case out of cubes and I lined the base with several sheets of newspaper. You couldn't even feel the "bumpiness" of the little squares.

really? thats cool! I guess it can be could if you use a good amount. Hmm I learned something new today.

he he, I probably used the whole newspaper! (it was so long ago, don't actually remember how many sheets I used).

Just a question out of curiosity...when you have Sage out all day, are you holding him, or is he running around the house?

Great advice Rachy1412 but don't forget to add the word "same sex" when suggesting someone get a 2nd piggie...
Newbies could read that wording to mean a mate like boyfriend/girlfriend etc.
Cheers (no offence intended)

Piglet probably just forgot.

Oh i've found a website that helps me figure out what to feed Sage.
Would that be guinealynx by any chance? If not, can you tell me what site it is and I will tell you if the info is correct or not. Many guinea pig sites out there have totally wrong info on what to feed piggies.

Guineagurl - What is wrong with having a boy and girl together? I have a boy and girl together and they do fine. Cinnamon used to be bossy to Coco but then she put Cinnamon in his place and they are happy campers.

I would like to add to the advice:

- Don't let the cat anywhere near your guinea pig. No matter how friendly it seems, it's still a natural predator, and the guinea pig is a prey animal.
- Are you going to become bored of your guinea pig like you did with your Nintendo system?
- At 2 months old your guinea pig will still be tiny in comparison to full size. My guinea pig was probably only a couple of hundred grams. She is now over a kilo 6 months later. If your cage is too small now, it will be FAR too small in a few weeks time.
- If your guinea pig is lethargic, this is not normal for a youngster. It's either too hot, bored (younger cavies are far more active if they have company) or ill.

Oh, and take some piccies so we can see him :)
