Well you know the cat that I thought was preg. we got her to the vet and she got a check-up. She got rabies and distemper shots she had tapeworm and flees so we also got that taken care of. The vet said her paw was probly ran over or got cought in a trap. He also said she has to have all her canines pulled. Then the day or so after that Anita (a lady who works with the rescue) took us to another vet to get Cali tested for Feline Aids and Lucimeia. Both tests came back positive, I was so bewildered I was about to ask the vet if he was joking. And then I started crying in the vets office. I don't know what to do, Anita said she was going to get another test done at a different vet but it still is like pow right in my face. We were going to keep her but if she really does have it there is no way we could with all our other animals. I just hope the test was wrong some how. I mean this cat is old, has messed up teeth, a injured paw, aids and lucimeia, I don't see anyone wanting to adopt her. I love her so much, I don't know why this had to happen to her. She's had such a hard life she needs a break.

That is soo sad. Goodluck and I hope you end up keeping her.

i know how you feal my cat lilly (he is a boy) was tested for cat aids and they told us that if it came back positive they would have to put him down. he got atleast five different cats pregnant and most several times he had fleas and ticks. he would never come in the house in the end we had to get him snipped and get a professional from the animal shelter to come trap him. im sure everything will be ok and if you want to look after her i think its a good idea just make sure yours other animals will be ok. but you have to remember it might end with heartbreak as she seems very sick and may not live long.

Yeah, I'm just hoping the test was wrong, the vet said it was a weak positive but there's no such thing so... And to me for as old as I think she is she is very healthy, other than some missing teeth. I don't know I suppose it's just a game of time untill we know for sure.

I am really sorry Jasper.

I know when the shelter gets one with feline lukemia, they put it down right away. The worst thing that could happen is that the shelter declares her unadoptable and says either you adopt her or they let her go/stop paying for treatment.

I hope it all works out.

Make sure to wash your hands VERY well after everytime you touch her and to keep her away from your other pets, feline lukemea (aids) is VERY contagious to other cats and dogs! so be careful!! and the only treatment for that is to just prlong it's life, never gets over it. (possibly euthniasain) :( :( :( :( :(

good luck and I hoope every thing works out in the long run!!!!

I had the same thing happen to my stray cat I found. But it turns out she was just in Kidney faliure ( which I guess is no better) but it worked out in the end, with her being on meds for a few weeks.
I hope that the same happens for you! God bless both of you, I 'll keep you in my prayers!

Maybe you could contact Best Friends Animal sanctuary, they have a special area just for lukemia positive cats.

Bunny- Were are they located??

Aww, I'm sorry to hear about this. I know you're just trying to do the right thing. Unfortunately, it doesn't always work out well. Several years ago, we took in a cat who was living under someone's couch for months (can you believe that?). We had her for barely three weeks before she died at the vet's office. Sometime before we took her, she had jaundice, brought on by a liver infection, which these people obviously didn't care about. She was at the vet more than she was with us, and she eventually had two heartattacks while she was there. So I definitely understand how things like this just don't work out. Good luck. I hope you can figure something out.

They are located in Southern Utah. www.bestfriends.org

If they agree to take the cat, they may be able to help you find transportation.

Oh, I don't think that will happen I'm in PA.

please post an update about your poor kitty, we all want to know what you desided to do and what is going on.

is no one going to post with an update or what?

Well nothing has really changed, we still have to get her tested again. We are waiting for the rescue to raise some money.
