I REALLY need HELP! I have got three male guinea pigs and have just bought them down to my mums house. The only problem is that we have a dog and she absouloutly HATES the guinea pigs. I have a cage that has a cage that attaches to a run and the run bit has no base, so we couldnt raise it off the ground! We dont really want to buy a new cage either! On the back of the cage their is a lock and but my dog easily gets in! I'm really worried about my piggies! ANY IDEAS?

Do you only have one room in your mother's house? I'd put the piggy cage into a room where the dog can't get in. You can secure the doorway with a fence or something so that the dog can't get over or through it even when the door is open.

Is there a way to keep the dog away from the cage? A friend of mine has 2 guinie pigs, and a dog that hates them. She keeps the pigs in her room and makes sure to close the door so the dog cant get it. I guess it worked. She eventualy(sp?) trained the dog not to bark at them.

Luckily, all of my animals get along (cat included lol), but I still wouldn't trust the dogs or the cat alone in the guinea pig room. I always make sure the door is closed, and even when my cat was a kitten and could crawl under the door, I'd put the baby gate in front of it to prevent that. In addition to finding another room for the pigs or finding new ways to block the door, work with your dog on this behavior. Even if he never likes the pigs, maybe you can at least get him to behave while he's in the room.

I haven't any real suggestions as far as your pen goes, but I can sympathise as one of my dogs is a bit "iffy" around the guineas and I have to be very careful. When my guineas are out playing I always make sure that hubby is aware so that a door isn't accidentally opened and piggies frightened or hurt. For me it is a case of common sense and being very careful.

My guinea PIGS LIVE OUTSIDE AND I HAVE ASKED MY MUM IF I CAN HAVE THEM INDOORS BUT SHE SAID NO! WHAT SHALL i DO? HELP!

You should not have your guinea pigs cage outside.

YOu need to get your guinea pigs indoors, partially because they are in dnager from the dogs and also because they need to be indoors just all around.

I have a dachshund who does like my guinea pigs. She is very curious about them and is jelous when I am with the piggies and not her. So I made my cage in the extra room that is on the third floor so my dog would not be able to get up their becuase the steps are to steep. Do you have any extra rooms?

I know I should have them inside, but like I said my mum said I am not allowed!

P.S I think we might be getting a three tier cage in a couple of days! cross your fingers!

Look, I know its better to have cage indoors, but sometimes its just not POSSIBLE! Mad gps is not an adult, so she has to listen to what her parents say. Just like I do. If she can't have then inside we need to think of other ways to help.

How can your dog get into the cage? Isn't the lock secure enough?

My dog gets in by flicking the lock.

All I can think of is having more locks. You know like on a door, when there are 3 or 4 locks going down the side, you might have to do something like that. Are you permanantly living at your mums house, so will this always be a problem?

Livestock outdoors, pets indoors. What kind of cage do you have them in outside that this dog can so easily flick the lock and get in. Isn't the lock locked? I would either get them a much more secure cage or put a lot more locks on the one you have.

Yes I think you just have to et some more locks. Are you positive you are locking them?

I agree with you ly about pets indoors, but sometimes its not possible. Lets just try to improve the outdoor cage

I thought I was doing that by suggesting more locks.

Oh no, I wasn't jumping on you, I was just saying in general. I know posters after me will bash mad gps for having her pigs outside...
