Hey, my cage is 91cm x 30cm and i am planning on getting two girl guinea pigs. The cage that i got was the only one that was around in the area and i had waited for ages before i got it. So i grabbed it when i could because as i said it was the only one in the area. Is this cage ok or should i sell it, get my money back and buy a bigger and better one. But the problem is that if i do sell it and get another one I will have to travel and that is un-possible because i am only 13 years old! Please can i have some ideas of what i can do?

Bye.

oh sorry i made a mistake it is 91cm x 40cm!

yes please DO NOT use this cage for two animals. in fact DO NOT use this cage for one animal. it is WAY too small. please check the main page of this site to find the minnimum size cage for two animals. also, it is much cheaper to build your own cage (like all the pictures on this site) then to buy one. for the amount you paid for the cage you have now, you could have probably built a cage 3-4 times that big.

As was already pointed out by others, that cage is too small for 1 guinea pig, 2 would be crammed in there like sardines. The minimum cage size for 2 guinea pigs is 76cm x 91cm...76cm x 127cm is a much better size for 2. A smaller cage like that just creates a host of problems with the guinea pigs.

Sell off the glorified shoe box and build a cage out of cubes and coroplast. If you can't find grids, you can use wire shelving and I have seen people in some places using wire wesh and wood frames. Look in the photo galleries for ideas. You can be creative and have a roomy cage for a fraction of the cost of a storebought cage.

Yes, thats a bad cage but it could be of some use. Use it as a travel cage or you could even connect it to a C&C cage.

how much did you pay for it? if it was over $70, sell it.

StellaStar...first let me commend you for even being on this website because there are a lot of 13 year olds I know who wouldn't even take pet ownership that serious....so good for you!

If at all possible, the C&C cage really works best and is soooooo much cheaper than the bought cages. Your piggies will be very happy! If you can't find coroplast easily, you can use linoleum which isn't expensive either....often you can find scrap pieces really cheap at home stores.
Are there any other concerns, besides selling the cage, that might keep you from building a C&C cage? Let us know...people here are pretty great about problem solving!

yep, they are, theres a solution for every problem, and we can probably help you find it!

well i already made a solution my self. I am going to build another level or two and add it to the bottom, does this sound ok. Oh and also i am going to put wooden floors over the wire. does this sound ok too?

it sounds better, but try not to go higher than 1 level (unless there is no possible way that the piggies could accidentally fall over any edges). this will cause great harm to them.

with the ramps i am having poly pipe that is cut inhalf which means that the ramps will have sides so they don;t fall of the side, oh and also i already thought about them slipping down the pipe, i am going to glue a peice of carpet on the inside, does the ramp sound ok. Also there is going to be 3 levels but instead of having the floor cutting of where the ramp goes up there is going to be a hole in the floor going onto the ramp, goes this sound ok?

I don't know about the three levels. It a hit or miss about whether they'll actually use the higher level

yes i agree with piglet. they may not even use the higher levels. but your levels do sound safe. it doesnt seem like the piggies will be able to fall any where. and your ramp sounds good too. let us know how it works out.

Yes, yes, I want pictures! Sounds like a cool cage so get making :)

Yeah when i finish i will take some pictures of the cage and show all of you guys on the forum! :)
