Ok

1. Are oats (like the plain ones from quaker) ok for guinea pigs around once a week?
2. I have a clean never been used pencil box. If I took of the lid, would the sturdy plastic bottom be ok for a play box?
3. Can I prepare salads for my pigs and measure a cup of the premade stuff daily?
4. This one is actually a comment. I loved cleaning my C&C cage. It was so funa and easy even easier than my very small commercial pet store cage was! Thanks soooo much for this wonderful idea!

1. Yeah Jasper love's them.
2. I don't understand quite what you mean.
3. Yes just make sure that there is nothing unhealthy in there for the gp's.
4. That's great!!

P.S. Post some pic's of your piggies!!!

1.) YOu should only give oats to a sick pig or one that needs to gain weight, maybe as a birthday treat or something
2.) It might be kind of small, but I don't see any reason why not.
3.) Yes, A lot of people do that, personally I don't like to do that because every thing goes all slimey alot quicker.

Concerning the pre-made bags of veggies, it depends where you get them and what area of the country ou live in. Mine go slimy so fast that I haven't been spending extra since getting two more pigs, because I'm using them up and buying more instead of them going bad and me getting more. The stuff in the grocery store or superwalmart here is always icky looking, and I'd bet money more people in my town eat possum than organic, so its not like there's a health food store with fresh, locally grown stuff, I can't wait until summer to find a produce stand.

I fill a large 32 cup bowl with different kinds of lettuce. I don't buy the bagged stuff. I buy 4-5 different kinds of lettuce, wash and dry them. Then I cut them up and put them in the bow.

A little trick to the slime. I place a paper towel on the bottom of the bowl, fill with lettuce and place another paper towel on top. It absorbs the excess moisture so the lettuce stays fresher longer.

Make sure the pre-bagged veggies DON'T contain iceberg lettuce. I'm not sure about oats.
And, (for the pencil box Q), it depends on the size of your piggies and the size of the box. What I mean is, make sure the box isn't too small for the piggies-make sure they'll be comfy. Maybe line it with some fleece to make a bed.

The only premade stuff I buy is the Spring Mix, which is very good for them.

I think by premade she means making it in bulk herself. ie. Taking a couple different types of lettuce, some carrots and tomatoes and making a "salad" for her pigs to keep in the fridge.

We do that at my house when we make human salad. We make a special one for the pigs and it lasts a couple of days. Good for the morning when you are in a hurry.

That's good. Didn't mean to sound bossy or anything.

Oats should only be fed to pigs who are underweight or very sick and have lost a lot of weight. Otherwise fed to a healthy pig will cause obesity. I doubt that a pencil box will hold your growing piggie for too long. And yes, I make pre-made salads myself although I eyeball the measurements when giving it to them.
