mounting boar

I have a boar that tries to mount all guinea pigs male or female. I've called around to see about having him neutered. but it is Very expensive. The shelter here said that they do not have successful surgeries w/ small rodents . Will he be ok living by himself ? Is there anything I can do ? Any advice is very welcomed

Re: mounting boar

First, I hope you have separated the males from the females.

Second, males mounting males is normal. [/b] They will continue to do that even if you get him neutered. You need to provide separate housing for the sexes.

Re: mounting boar

I bought him { Cocoa ) and another male pig ( Snickers )from the same cage when they were babies. a couple of months later Cocoa tried mounting and chasing Snickers. Snickers would cry loudly as he was being chased and mounted
We felt so sorry for him b/c he was being tormented by his brother. Does this mean the mounting aggressive boar should always be housed by himself ?
Females and Males are not together learn about reasons not to breed on this web site. I did it once b4 I found this sight but will not do it again.

Re: mounting boar

Males mounting males is normal. As long as they are not fighting, they will usually settle down and work it out. See: www.cavyspirit.com/sociallife.htm for more info.

Re: mounting boar

My pig does that to, I'm seperating my pig when I get more but he will still be close.

Re: mounting boar

Wow, you really found an old thread, Sagwa! It's from over two years ago. Wow.

^_^ I went to the last page of the boards and found this, I needed this help to, because my pig does the same thing.

Re: mounting boar

Hi, Sagwa. I know this post is old, but I just wanted to let you know that I experienced the same thing with my 2 boars that were brothers. I got them at the shelter when they were 5 weeks old. They lived together there, and lived together at my house in a 2x5 for a few months. They always tried mounting each other, and I thought everything was fine. I came home from work one day and Oscar had 2 bites on his face, and Henry had a clump of fur missing from his rump. I immediately seperated them. They can't even play together anymore, they just try to attack each other. I'd keep an eye on yours, and seperate them if they starting hurting each other.

Re: mounting boar

They do that a lot when introducing, it's just normal piggy behavior. It's also what Teresa said, above.
