Hi I am new to this site and have just received 6 cavy's from a gentleman that had 14 thanks to his son putting a male into the female's cage.
I have have been owned by cavys before but I am wanting to be a better and smarter caretaker now.
So I need to know how big I need to build the C&C cage for the six girls that just moved in.

The cage can be build in an area that is 3 feet x 7 feet

Thank you for all your help in advance....

You will have to make it to fit exactly into that space you have available. It will be smaller then a typical 3x7 C&C cage as the 3x7 is cube sizes (14") not feet.

The good thing is that since they are all females there is less chance of territorial behavior causing fights.

If I were you I would also add a loft area or two just to give them a little more space to get away from each oter if they feel like it.

I second what VJ said.

Yeah, bigger the cage, the better. Make sure that you make it as big as possible. 14 pigs? how many babies did the mother have? Or, were some of them adults? Good luck with your piggies. They are so much fun! ;)

There were 14 pigs because one male impregnated several females acording to teh gentleman. I left a post with his info in the adoption forum.
They are all very cute and all different colors.
I got 6 females, 3 curly hair ones ( called rosetten in german is all I know), two of which are all black one is white with a black coon mask. Three straight haired ones, one rusty red with a whitespot on her nose, one is rusty red with a broad white stripe behind her head, one black with one white sock.
My daughter named the rust colored one Ginger. The White curly one is called Lilly. We are still deciding on names for the others.

I would make it exactly 3x7 feet, so that you can use all that space... And either overlap the grids or use wired shelving. That's 21 sq ft, so a good size for 6 females.

New cage for our 6 girls

Hello again!

I just wanted to let all of you know that we decided to move some furniture and make the C&C cage 3 grids x 8 grids.
I planned it out this am and called a local sign shop called Fine Signs in Bowling Green KY after I was done calculating measurements.
I told them the sizes I needed for the lower and upper levels as well as the run to conect the levels and they cut the sheets to size at no charge.
All I had to do when I got home was to tape the pieces together with Ductape, measure, score and fold.
The cubes I got at Target for $14 for a box of 6 cubes aka 20 grids.
Since the only color coroplast the sign store had was white I got white cubes as well.
After quite a bit of time and some agrevation with conectors that didn't want to stay put and my 20 month old that wanted to help by trying out just how much weight the upper levels would hold; we got the cage together and the girls are really enjoying it. They are running, jumping and scurrying around squeaking all the while in their hapy little voices.

Your cage is AWESOME! GREAT job. I really want to make a cage like yours now. XD
