Mildly embarrassing question

My male piggie (3 months) has some sticky "stuff" at the bottom of his rump ( not much) - is this normal - do pigs secret some kind of scent thing to mark areas? It's the only place on his body that has this - it's kind of like sap from a tree. Thanks.

Yeah, that's the grease gland. It's normal,and you don't have to wash it either. They have it to leave their scent I believe. All piggies have it too, males and females.

You don't 'have' to wash it. But it can get quite icky and discusting so when it gets real bad I wash it. Just use washing up liquid or lemon juice to get it off if it starts bothering you or your boar.

Oh , forgot about that- if it gets really icky wash it. I don't have to though, my boys don't usually get it very icky at all.

It sounds like a grease gland, and it is ok to leave it. I only clean my boys grease glans if they get really reallt mucky. To get it off I use a alcohol wipe called Zoff, you can buy it in chemists (there are bound to other products of the same type with diffrent names, this is just what I buy in the UK).

Is Zoff safe? What if a piggy goes back and licks it off? I just use water and guinea pig shampoo.

A couple of wipes will remove the grase, once it is clean, just rinse his "bum" in some water to get any remaining "Zoff" off.

The best way to get the greasy residue off of a boar's grease gland is to use a drop of dawn diswashing soap and water and rinse well. There is no need to use alchohol stuff.

Slap, I wondered the same thing, that maybe it was semen, but then I thought about how it would have gotten in that place.. So, I think out of good backed-up proof that it's just a gland.
