Hi, my name is Ginny. I live in the midwest and I'm a seventeen year old animal rights activist and vegetarian. In my lifetime of being owned by animals, I've served cats, dogs, fish, lizards, frogs, hamsters and rats. I currently have a seventeen year old cat and a two year old rat.

Today I went to Petco to get my rat, Beatrix, a get well present(she just had a 2nd surgery to remove a tumor) and to buy cat food. On my way to the cat food isle, I heard a thumping noise. It was a rather odd noise, so I looked for its source. Guess what it was? It was a little piggy! This piggy is currently named Aunt Ouinky(sp?). She's in a ten gallon aquarium  and was abandoned because she was "bossy and did not play well with other piggies." She's ten months old. Aunt Ouinky(sp?) was rather outgoing for a piggy meeting a stranger. She hopped around a bit and scampered into her igloo at first. But I soon charmed her. :silly: Apparently she's been there awhile and no one wants her! So she's stuck in a ten gallon aquarium, wasting away. :(

Sooo, tomorrow I'm going back to take her home! I want to get her out of that aquarium ASAP! She'll be rooming in either an unused rat cage or play pen or jumbo storage bin while I assemble her piggy paradise! It's not ideal but this it's better than her current quarters! She's going to be solo until I can work something out. (Neutered boyfriend perhaps?)

I'm doing some research, I already know a bit about piggies and a lot about small animals. I know this is really fast but you guys understand there is a piggy in need, right? Any and all advice is welcome!

Welcome to the forum.

Ask Petco if they'll give her to you. At that age, they're not likely to be able to sell her, and you're doing them a favor by taking her off their hands.

I would request them to give her to you for free or a decreased price. oh and Welcome to the world of guinea pigs! You will soon be addicted to them :) hehe.

You could just sneak her out in the pocket of a hoodie sweatshirt. I am sure she wouldn't make a sound if you told her about her new home. Just kidding... but I am sure a similar thought crossed your mind when you saw her today. I agree with bpatters. They should just give her to you. Since you have had a lot of pets you probably have given them business. If they want that business to continue, they should work with you.
On another note, what did you end up getting Beatrix? That is if you didn't forget with the stress of seeing the piggy.

Oh, she's free. There was no price on her. They didn't mention a price either, which I'm sure they'd do..

On a side note, waiting for the right moment to ask my stepfather may take a few days. Hopefully I can get it through tomorrow morning so she can come home tomorrow. (Today wasn't a good time to ask..)

I got Beatrix some mini squeaky doggy tennis balls and a bird mirror with bells so she can "ring" for me. Heh.
