I thought I would introduce you to Poppy. As I said in my introduction I got him from my daughter as she couldn't keep him because of her 4 yr old.
He came to me in this tiny cage that wasn't too clean.

My husband was not too keen on him but there is a good outcome to that!

After exhaustive research I made him a run out of two old bird cages, giving him 24 sq feet of room. Bought loads, way too much, vegies, hay. ;)
Made him little hiding places and got some tubes for him to run through.

After about 1 week he started coming out of his shell and has turned into a lovable, sweet critter. He gets lap time and free range time every day and popcorns like crazy! :)

And back to my husband...The other night, during lap time, Poppy crawled into Don's lap and onto his shoulder. I peeked and low and behold Don was smitten!!! :D

My next order of business is to get him a buddy. Which might prove difficult. The nearest rescue is down in Sarasota, 100 MI from me. To add to the problem one of our grand children lives w/ us which disqualifies me.

Anywho, here he is!!!

I plan on taking more shots of him and will add them to this thread.

Thanks!

AW!!! She/her (not sure:)) is adorible!!!

Thanks! He is a boy!

He is, isn't he. But then again aren't they all? :D

Poppy is adorable! I'm glad that you went the adoption route and did your research. Have you tried craigslist? I didn't get very many matches in the general search, but if you search "guinea pig" or "guinea" under the "community" section, you tend to get more matches. Good luck with Poppy! :)

Thanks! But isn't Craigs list a no no? Or am I wrong?

As long as they aren't breeders. Most people on Craiglist need to rehome their guinea pigs for whatever excuse they have. Most people adopt their guineas from Craiglist! It's a great way to give an unwanted guinea a home without going to a breeder/pet store.

Thanks for the clarification!!!!

He is precious! I wish I would have had as much luck with my husband! It is amazing how tame he is. Enjoy your new baby!

Thanks so much! I hope your husband comes around!!!

He is adorable! I found our Roger on Craigslist, the father was making the little girl get rid of him because he kicked his bedding out of the tiny cage he was kept in, he thought he was messy and dirty:mad: stupid jerk! But good for us because we now have our sweetie pie!

He's gorgeous! Three of my guinea pigs are from Craigslist and all from teens who couldn't juggle pet care with school activities. Their loss was my gain. I got Wishbone first. The family was rehoming her with her cage and all belongings for $15. I gave her cage to my rescue to use at their adopt a pet events. I got Peach Pie and Ala Mode a few weeks ago. They were listed on Craiglist for months. I thought it was a breeder at first. They rehomed a neutered male and another guinea pig prior to listing these two. They had a large rehoming fee that kept going down and down. The ad said they wanted them to go to someone experienced with guinea pigs who uses fleece. Finally, the fee dropped to $50 for both which included all the fleece, towels, pet carrier, bottle, dishes, two double pigloos and cozy sacks. I contacted him and it turned out to be a 17 year old boy. He was really attached to them and just wanted to make sure they would be cared for as well as he cared for them. They had been really well cared for and had regular vet visits. You can find great pets on Craigslist. I also have two sponsored seniors from my rescue, another I adopted from my rescue and one I adopted from a really awful rabbit rescue.

@bpatters - you beat me to it...LOL. Since I've been doing so much searching for months now I could probably list every rescue in the state of Florida.

WOW!!!!! Thanks so much!!!! I see they are in St Pete!!! :D

I just filled out the Adoption Form!!!!!

So cute!!!! I love the adoption route but I don't qualify for any of them with 3 kiddos. I got just mine from my 11 year old's science class. They introduced 3 male guineas to the class, but it turned out 1 was sexed wrong. Since we're one of only a handful of families that will care for the class pets on weekends/holidays, I decided to give 2 babies a permanent home :) Hubby warmed up really fast when they started wheeking and snuggling on his neck!

What a cute story. Why were you disqualified because of your kids? That seems sad to me.
