Medications Meds affect on bonding?

Hey everyone,

So one of my girls got diagnosed with a respiratory infection today and got put on a regiment of antibiotics and probiotics. I'm a little worried though about the affect it will have on how Opal will bond with me. I've only had my cavys a little over a week now and they are still pretty skittish about me. I've finally got them to start eating from my hand, but I'm worried that this twice-a-day "wrap me in a towel and shove a syringe down my throat" routine is going to make her hate me. Should I be concerned or is this less traumatic for the piggies then I think?

It can be traumatic, but it has to be done. She won't hate you, but she will probably be wary of you. You will make up for it with lots of treats of yummy greens.

Oddly, I think that all the handling is getting her more used to me rather than fearful. She's still squeaking when I pick her up, but did some popcorns when she got put back in her floor cage.

Ok, so after a week, she's getting kind of fed up with it all. A few days ago, she started the annoyed rumbling and vibrating. Yesterday, she was so upset she nipped my shirt and started tugging on it pretty hard. Any way to make Opal not so stressed out about the experience or is it just a grin and bear it for another week?

Well, she's still new and getting used to me for the most part. It was going really well for a few days there -- I try and give her some veggies and treats during medicine time so that she's got some good experiences. She was chowing down on the cilantro like crazy the other day, but now she won't have any of it. She's still eating in her cage so I don't think it's a health issue.

I have to giver her the usual antibiotic and probiotic combo, so I try and space them out if I have the time since some sites have suggested that. I was giving it to her slower before, but she's so fritzed out over the experience now that I try and just get it over with as soon as possible before she starts nipping at my shirt again.

Figured it out: she hates the probiotics. She put up a good 15 minute fight with me over them, but took the antibiotics like they were candy. Weird.... I wonder why she likes one but not the other.... anyone else have an experience like that?
