Mattress Cover vs Mattress Pad

I am a little confused between the pad and the cover. I know there are some pads/cover that have the plastic underneath the top layer of pad and there is one that is just made of padding (for more comfort) without the plastic.

So my question is... which one is better? The one with the plastic or the one without?

IMHO one with plastic underneath. That would keep the coro/flooring material clean and it should last longer then.

You couldn't double layer with the plastic one unless you used them both. It would have to go: Fleece, pad, cover(plastic side on bottom). Let us know what you use and how it works.
